It sounds like JD Martinez and the Red Sox are (finally) close to an agreement.

5/110 with an opt out after the first two years.
It sounds like Martinez/Boras finally caved.

Not getting into a bidding war against themselves seems to be a strong tactic for teams right now.

Crazy that the D-Backs didn't swoop in and grab him at that price.

That was the last guy left who had been sitting on a substantial reported offer. Very curious to see where the rest of these guys end up.

It really seems like Boras was using JD to help prop up the Hosmer market. Even if the teams were different. Once Hosmer was gone I'm guessing it was clear there was nothing else out there but Boston.
I have no idea what's left out there for Jake.

Waiting for the Dodgers to sign him to a one year deal.

This is definitely just Boras using Heyman as PR like the "Arizona really wants JD back!" fluff.
But realistically for Jake it's gotta be Brewers, Phillies ..... maybe the Twins or Rockies?

Arrieta in Colorado would go about as well as Neagle in Colorado given the decline in velocity. Twins make the most sense, but I'd guess they're fine with the Odorizzi acquisition as their only big pitching move.

I hope it's the Brewers that end up signing him.

Arrieta would be a great fit for the Sox if they think they are close to contending in 2019.
Although I think I've said that about every good free agent.

I don't know why they wouldn't take advantage of the market. If Cleveland is the only other team in the Central that will be competitive this year, this is there best chance to make up some ground and grab another Wild Card.

Y'all have any recommendations as far as baseball websites to follow along with this season? FanGraphs seems to be the one that most appeals to me, but I can maybe handle one or two more good ones this year if there's something else people smarter than me like

The Ringer's baseball content is awesome. Ben Lindbergh is one of the best baseball writers alive, Michael Baumann is great, and their podcast is worth a weekly listen.
Sam Miller on ESPN writes insanely long and weird pieces but they are always fantastic.
Also not sure if you're a Sox fan but SouthSideSox is good.
But yeah Fangraphs is the GOAT.

I was just going to say, they've assembled a hell of a roster of baseball writers. I still don't subscribe though MLBTR is my go to.

Yup. It went dormant when he took over South Side Sox. He just restarted it and took a lot of the writers with him.

Forrest Whitley has been suspended for 50 games. I don't recall the last time a top 10 prospect was suspended for drug infraction.

The Twinkies signed LoMo to a 1 year, 6.5M deal today. I expect this to be the first of several deals that fall way short of initial predictions.

I could see Boras working out some deal with major deferred money with the Nats. They love doing those.

Jake's free agency campaign has a Macklemore at the Riv feel to it. Getting kinda sad.

At least Jake has known suitors. I think there's a decent chance Moustakas and Holland don't end up on opening day rosters.

I'd love to know what that Rockies deal was that Holland agreed on and then didn't sign. I could only assume it's a #feelsbadman now
