If the Cure really is doing one US fest this year, is Day for Night out of the question?

I wasn't going to be the one to bring it up, but I had a big time daydream about that yesterday evening.

it would be an incredible amount of money for a fest that had deep groupon discounts last year to bring the cure out for one show only

I'm sure this rumor about The Cure was started because it's the band's 40th anniversary and their upcoming appearance at the summer festival in Hyde Park was billed as their only 2018 appearance in the UK.
Having said that, I do not think it necessarily follows that they will do one 2018 festival in the U.S. And, I really do not think it would be ACL given the 2 weekends thing.
Also, Robert is curating Meltdown and is hinting that he "along with friends" will play at the fest. So much for the UK exclusive, lol.
Supposedly, Robert is once again excited to write new songs, so hopefully a new album would lead to a full tour.

Honest question, maybe I'm just being dumb, but would the Cure really be that much more expensive to book than NIN? I understand that for a one-off the answer would be yes, just saying in general.

Cure is pretty much always billed as a #1 (except that last time at ACL where they were behind Depeche Mode which i still dont totally get) but NIN has been in the 4-6 territory at US mains for a while and even lower in the UK. so i imagine yes

I don't know. But, a festival in Texas with the only US appearance of The Cure would draw a ton of people. They have a HUGE Mexican and South American following, and folks travel to see Robert, so could be worth it for D4N.

i don't think it's impossible since d4n have shown they pull off some crazy shit. i just think it would be expensive and surprising for more reasons than just expense.

Cure at d4n doesn't seem that wild. If the Cure can play Riot Fest, they can play d4n. NIN were the RF "headliner" last year so it works on that level too

I have already told mrs ten15 that if The Cure come to the US this year that we will be traveling for it, and she is on board. If it is a festival, that would be a bit more tricky. However, if it is D4N, she has a couple of cousins in Houston so that would be a selling point for her to go to D4N one day, and let me go the whole time.
tl;dr: I would love for The Cure to play D4N, as it would probably be the only way I would get to that festival.

We also know that Robert's only true criteria for playing a festival is if he's headlining - as relayed by Paul Banks in the indispensable (and previously recommended) Meet Me in the Bathroom book.

Trent forfeited 19k of his booking fee so they could bag Soccer Mommy but it wasn't enough

If they do ACL I'm almost certain it wouldn't be a complete one off, they'd do Mexico City in between the weekends I'm sure. And honestly they could do that around D4N too

Florence and AM is a good start.
also i mentioned it in the Other Fests thread but NIN are playing Louisville in late September and San Antonio mid October.
depending on how you interpret the radius clause in 2018 that may or may not be a tad suspicious

I'm thinking probably not on Florence cuz she played in 2015 and seems to be doing US fest stuff in mid September, not mid October.
The National and Travis Scott are the other super likely headliners. The National is playing Red Rocks the Tuesday in between ACL weekends and hasn't played Texas yet. Travis Scott was announced on some radio show.

Probably can put Gambino as likely too with his October dates. Which would give us four of the six headliners

Add in The Weeknd and and an EDM headliner and there’s your most likely your top 6.

Add in The Weeknd and and an EDM headliner and there’s your most likely your top 6. I don't think The Weeknd, Childish Gambino and Arctic Monkeys is the top 3. I'm just gonna say that. Also, an EDM headliner at ACL isn't a certainty by any means. I think someone like Lorde makes a lot of sense.

Actually, I'll correct myself on that. There have been every year since 2014.

Granted a major may be scared to book him in 2018 right now but I don't think Kanye at number 1 is out of the question
