find me a better outfield view than this. I've been to two Pirate's games there and really loved it. Good fans and a great stadium. However.....

nope, not buying it. just sky and far away rockies in left field.
i've been to coors field, though, and think it's a great stadium in a nice location. enjoy the proximity to wynkoop brewing, too.

I think a sunset over a mountain range as a backdrop beats a city skyline, but that's just me.

Right. Just the Rockies in the background.

seriously though, you can hardly see them, and only if you're on the first base side. i love the rockies, but they're not a big feature of the outfield there.

Dodger Stadium from the same vantage point definitely feels top 5 in this conversation. Google time... Edit: Perhaps better in person than here:

Its hard to see the mountains from that birds eye view. Never been there but I would think the only way you see the mountains were if you were in the upper deck. No? Can we consider the view of 1/4 of the crowd the stadium backdrop?

Flip home plate so the seats face downtown. I never understand this criticism. I think people assume that the skyline would dominate the outfield view, when in reality 35th is not all that close. Sure, but it's a hell of a lot nicer to look at than the projects that were across the street. Really, really wish they went for the Camden Yards style., That Fangraphs article is pretty cool - thanks Xamnam

i wonder how the cubs will set their playoff rotation? weirdly, hendricks and quintana are the obvious locks. lackey has been pretty solid lately, but he still seems to always give up runs early. hard to imagine them not playing jon lester, and arrieta's second half has to be good enough to give him a go, right? i guess they'll see how he does on sunday.
hendricks vs. scherzer to start?

Yeah this Cubs rotation is pretty crazy right now. I think Lackey will be the odd man out, which is harsh because he's had a nice September. I just don't see Lester sitting because of his history even though his second half has been pretty bad
I'd put my money on Hendricks with the game 1 start. Best season of the staff and closed it out strong. Outdueled both Kershaw and Kluber in back to back clinching games last Oct+Nov
And I'm really excited to watch Q in October. Last Sunday's complete game was a monster

Hoping that the majority of the Cubs-Nationals series are night games.

That sucks. When KC was in the playoffs in '14 (including the Wild Card game against Oakland) and '15, I had no trouble getting tickets. However, both World Series were almost impossible.
Good luck, Cubs!
<still rooting for Colorado, though>

I'm just rooting for Colorado to get beyond the WC game so I can go to a playoff baseball game for the first time.
Boston and Houston should be a fun series.

I've been lucky enough to go to 1 game in each of the last two years: the clinching Game 4 against the Cardinals at Wrigley two years ago, and the Hendricks/Kershaw showdown in the NLCS last year that finished 1-0. Both were awesome experiences.

The fact that he could still be back by the first month is encouraging.

I saw the Rockies in this playoff game: www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/COL/COL200910110.shtmlThe temperature at the start of the game was 35 degrees. It was about 20 when the damn thing finally ended. Most miserable game I have ever been to.

I'd have to be tipsy to watch a baseball game in that type of weather.

Wow, that's rough. The worst I've been to was the doubleheader that ended at about 40 degrees, and even with that, my feet were nuuuuuuumb.

Just got some playoff tickets for the first Rockies home game just in case they make it past the Diamondbacks. Refundable, so what the hell.

I wonder if the Sox will trade Avi Garcia. Finished the season with an absurd .330/.380/.506 line and is arb-eligible for two more years before free agency.

Pretty crazy story about the Braves GM: John Coppolella's resignation just the start of the Atlanta Braves' problemsThe investigation remains open and is expected to look into the signing of top prospect Kevin Maitan, a 17-year-old shortstop who received a $4.25 million bonus last year. If improprieties are discovered with Maitan’s signing, he, too, could be declared a free agent, according to multiple sources.Maitan is one of the best prospects in baseball so this would be bananas.
