I did! We're not really on a name basis, but I think she recognized me and was surprised.

She is the best. Sam is mentoring her a bit and I think she's hoping she'll get to write on her FX show.

Oh damn! That's amazing. I guess the FX thing fell through, but she has a conference call this week about another network picking it up. She couldn't say for sure, but since Abby Jacobson is involved I assume it's Comedy Central. She's also moving to LA soon to write on somebody else's show, so that's pretty cool.

Oh interesting! I didn't know that. Hope it gets off the ground either way.

I’m not sure if you remember, but a while ago we said we were gonna write a book about our band. Well, it’s almost done and it’s coming out soon. This is what it’s gonna look like. Kinda nice, right?Very interested in this, and would love to have it on the shelf with the rest of my music books (as opposed to on my Kindle, which I'm sort of getting away from again). I don't buy a lot of hardcover books brand new...is $50 standard? That seems hella expensive for a new book.

A regular novel by a non-Beastie is usually $30 or so, so sure.

Finished this today. Chuck Palahniuk does everything imaginable to be offensive. Which is to say, great book. But not so great ending. Think Fight Club meets The Purge.

My copy of Kitchen's Confidential finally came this week after Bourdain passed and kinda got me back into reading after not doing it for way too long. It's a good book, but can feel repetitive at times. Maybe it's just because I just finished his Day in the Life chapter where he painstakingly goes over the average day in a kitchen.
Anyway, this is what I have on the docket now, a lot of these I've been meaning to read for a long time:
Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine Discourse on Colonialism New Jim Crow Between the World and Me Communist Manifesto The Alchemist The Autobiography of Malcolm X The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck The Omnivore's Dilemma Steve Jobs Dreams from My Father

Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine Discourse on Colonialism New Jim Crow Communist Manifesto The Alchemist The Autobiography of Malcolm X The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck there is a 0% chance you're not on a list now, based on this administration's irrational fears.

The Omnivore's Dilemma is excellent.

Def recommend Omnivores Dilemma and New Jim Crowe. Had the chance to see Michelle Alexander speak a few years ago and it was incredible. Communist Manifesto is great but also takes a lot longer to read than it looks because it’s some heavy language to digest. Also recommend Wage Labor Capital if you’re reading Marx

Read the Autobiography of Malcolm X first. It's incredible. I think I'm going to do Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglas > Souls of Black Folk > Notes of a Native Son > Autobiography of Malcolm X > The New Jim Crow > Dreams from My Father > Between the World and Me > I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness in the wild hope that there's some continuing thread but also to see any changes over time

Sister Outsider might be one of the most important collections ever though so that would be my Lorde recommendation for Neader's Intro to African-American Literature course. Or if Neader is being lazybones, he can just read "The Master's Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master's House"
