i was only there for like 2 and half days but i totally agree with doing all the manhattan touristy stuff once. (I walked and subwayed the vast majority of it in an afternoon)
- 9/11 memorial - wall street bull/see the statue of liberty over the bay - brooklyn bridge - time square - central park (not far from carnegie and all the Late Night show buildings)
prospect park in brooklyn was amazing and we found that amazing soul food place just off the beaten path by the museum.
was in williamsburg the other 2 nights with thissy and it was delightful. lot of cool brewpubs and music venues and omnom's. he can give you a better list than i can (obviously)

It was so good. I don't even know what prompted us to walk over in that direction, but I'm so glad we did.

I'll fourth Gueros. The brisket tacos are amazing. Gold Star Beer counter always has a nice selection and the atmosphere is very welcoming, or if you just want to swing by it and grab a growler on the go. Some other recommendations in the Crown Heights/Prospect Heights area are Nourish for Thai, Barboncinos for brick oven pizza, and Catfish for Cajun. There are plenty of good mexican options in the area but my favorite would be Madre Cocina y Mezcaleria.
With doso's recommendation I should probably check out Covenhoven considering how close I live to it. Looks like a nice place and has a backyard to it.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Turns out I'm in prospect lefferts gardens according to Google, about two blocks north of the 2 stop, should be easy to get around.

Nice. Erv's was a really solid bar down there the one time I went, and MIdwood Flats has a dope burger.
Also honestly I prefer Prospect Park over Central Park and ur real close and should check it out too. Central is def still worth checking out though. They're both A+
It would be a little annoying for you to get there via the subway but you're also pretty close to Green Wood Cemetery, which like if you're a good goth and enjoy hanging out in Cemeteries it's really quite quite lovely.

Neader if you do come to Central Park hit me up. I’ll be staying a block from there on the UWS (nearest the entrance by the John Lennon Imagine memorial). You can join me walking the pup.

What's the transit situation in Brooklyn for weekends? It looks like we might be okay where we're staying in Bed-Stuy as long as we don't need to go north, but the MTA website has otherwise not been very helpful.

It's unfortunately impossible to predict. The MTA doesn't release the list of weekend service changes and station closures until Friday. Check here on the Friday when you're visiting: web.mta.info/weekender.htmlGothamist also publishes the weekend service changes every Friday. I think I recommended it last time, but download the citymapper app which incorporates weekend service changes after they're published. Just plug in wherever you want to go on Sat/Sun and it will give you transit options based on what's available.

Sadly, my place to stay in New York fell through for next weekend. Anyone have any recs on sites to check for relatively affordable rentals? (yes i realize how ridiculous this sounds)

So I'll be coming in October 19th and returning to Chicago on the 22nd. October 20th, I'm seeing Springsteen on Broadway (Extremely stoked). Found out that Elton is playing on that Friday. Do MSG tickets usually tank close to the show on Stubhub? Probably the only way I'd be able to swing that because I'm going to try and see either Mean Girls or Frozen on that Sunday.

You’re forgetting that this is Elton’s “final tour” (yeah right). Tickets aren’t going to tank

I've found that all other things remaining equal, the NYC market is less likely to tank than other markets. Tons of demand, people travel here to see shows, MSG is an iconic venue, etc.

Yeah Elton @ MSG is never going to be affordable.
Billy Joel literally plays every damn month and it's still pricey as hell.
