Q: I want to go to that Interpol/CSH/Snail Mail MSG show next weekend, and - based on the inordinate number of ads I've seen for it - this can't be selling well. That said, like most MSG shows, StubHub isn't budging much from $40 or so. What are my odds of scalping outside the arena for less than this? Anyone had success there before? Jukely just added this show, if you’re inclined to sign up. Even if you’re not, it’s a good sign overall.

Also just entered a bunch of contests for this via OMR, BV, DoNYC, etc.

PSA to anyone who may be interested: The Brant Foundation is putting on a Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition that looks really rad, from March-May. The tickets are free, but you need to get them in advance and they're almost entirely sold out. I just got a pair for May 5th. Link is here!

Also, apologies but this is about to turn into the official Monastery Tracks Interpol MSG Stubhub Thread.
Tickets have finally started to tank! Down to $19 before fees rn! Gonna be checking this every few hours and if it dips much more I'm just gonna go for it.

Any recommendations for cool hotels in Lower Manhattan? Looking to stay under 300 a night before tax and would like a decent sized room. I'm looking at the Conrad but it seems like that might be a little bit of a walk from a lot of the stuff I want to do around there.

Just bought my Frida Kahlo tickets. I can't wait to consume nothing but bagels and beer for four days.

Ooh also! While we've sorta been talking contemporary art in this thread - I'd encourage anyone with some free time in NYC to check out the new Nari Ward exhibition "We The People" at the New Museum. It's full of these incredible, large-scale found object sculptures and has been on my mind a lot today after seeing it at opening last night (and also I promise this post isn't just me shilling for my employer)

Currently I'm part-time interning in the New Museum's Archive department, which has been rad as hell.
Especially since I've been able to fake my way through most of the Serious Art Discussions so far - as most of my co-workers have Art History or just straight up Fine Arts backgrounds, whereas I was just a History major.
(My other part time job is at a library which is less cool but pays better soooo...)

Anyone have any opinions on what should be prioritized between the Warhol exhibit at the Whitney, Kahlo exhibit at Brooklyn Museum or the Tolkien exhibit at the Morgan Library? I’m interested in all 3 but not sure I’ll have time to hit them all next week.

I believe the Nauman exhibit is still at MOMA and PS1 which would be my top 2 choices if I were magically inNY for fun touristy reasons.
I'm not sure if the Brooklyn Museum is still "renovating" but theres a good shot the Frida exhibit is one of the only things open of interest there. I saw a previous incarnation of the Frida collaboration a couple years ago and its great and you should definitely see it.
The Whitney is worth a visit but I wouldn't prioritize a Warhol exhibit ever. Don't care about Tolkien so I cant help you there.

Woaaahh - fuck I'm gonna spend so much money on concerts next week. Patti Smith is on the Must See list, Built to Spill playing Keep It Like A Secret, plus another Big Thief show? Ugghhh Do you think all these acts are playing the main ballroom? Google says it has 1,600 capacity and I would think both BTS and Big Thief will take a while to sell out two nights of that size.

yeah. apparently there is now only the main room and then the studio but it doesnt sound like the studio is going to book rock shows like they used to. the marlin room has been turned into more entrance space and a lounge apparently.
i was pretty surprised big thief were announcing two nights there, but i guess they're on the up and up and can handle it. those shows are probably pretty safe to wait on buying for i would imaine, though. i could see built to spill selling faster given the album sets and webster throwback but who knows. obviously, you need to try to buy a patti ticket the second it goes on sale.

Awesome - that helps a lot! Yea I think my game plan will be only Patti at general on-sale. Big Thief sold out Brooklyn Steel last October, but that show took forever to sell out, so I can probably at least wait a month or so and hopefully get down to their box office in the meantime. Built To Spill, I'll take the same chance on, but I caught them play a great set at the Metro 3-4 years ago so I won't be too heartbroken if that falls through.

Just booked 5 night hostel stay in East Williamsburg, two blocks away from Roberta's, from 5/30-6/4 for only $50/night. Going solo this time. Thinking about the tenement museum, Guggenheim, whitney, eat more pizza besides just roberta's, more time in brooklyn and less time in the village, botnaical gardens and brooklyn museum, and broadway, Network is the front runner right now if anyone else has any other suggestions lmk. Oh and gov's ball on sunday too.
