Good stuff. Hailu Mergia, Mdou Moctar, Makaya McCraven, and Sons of Kemet would all be awesome. Thanks for pointing these out. That Makaya McCraven show is on my radar now for sure.

My guy in Queens says Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company. There are a couple of locations in Astoria and he said they're both great. They close early, though, so visit them tomorrow morning. If you're looking for a late night Astoria bagel, I don't have a recommendation.

Just found a cheap ticket for the Bikini Kill show at King’s Theatre on June 5. I’ve been wanting to check out a show there anyways so that works out well. Anyone doing that one?

I think you can contact ticketfly’s attendee support line and they can help out. I work on the Eventbrite side but those reps are actually in my office, maybe I’ll walk over there and double check

These slipped by me when they were announced yesterday. Tickets on sale tomorrow morning. I particularly like that Swearin'/Screaming Females bill. The schedule is up on Brooklyn Vegan

Highlights include the Mountain Goats, Alvvays, Parquet Courts, Japanese Breakfast, Slick Rick, EPMD, The Wailers, Talib Kweli, Durand Jones, Railroad Earth, and a bunch more (including a ton of jazz, a few of which I may check in to out of curiousity)

Friend and I are going in September. We went to NYC in 2012 to see Bloc Party do three shows at Terminal 5 and then got invited to their afterparty. With both of us wanting to go back together, and the Silent Alarm reunion show taking place on a Friday, it just seemed like it made sense. So yeah, I'll be in NYC for the third time in 11 months come September.
Staying in Crown Heights, just a Thursday-Sunday.

That's awesome. How'd you manage to get to the afterparty?

I was pretty involved in their fan forum back in the day. Me and a few others, one from CT, one from Denver, and one from ATL were all going to meet up and stay together for the shows. It was a good time. Their publicist would post on the forum every now and then about things that are happening and drop teasers to get us excited. She was in charge of an app that was created to hype up Four when it was about to come out and was really upset with the forum because someone (me) leaked the album. Like a week before the album was supposed to come out I went on and some random person messaged me with a link to it, naturally I sent it out to some close friends on the board and it ran like wildfire. So she was mad because that kinda destroyed a lot of work that she had put into the app for some reason, so I messaged her and like apologized on behalf of the board and she said no worries and she actually got my number and we met up before the show and she asked us if there were any songs we wanted to hear. Afterward we're just kinda standing around Terminal 5 right after the show ended and she waved me over and gave us a bunch of passes to their afterparty at a hotel basement in Tribeca. 5/6 of us were under 21. But they didn't check, we got in and got to drink with them, it was great. She just told us not to talk to Kele because his family was there and he apparently wasn't in the mood for that but Russell, Matt and Gordy were all awesome and sociable with us. She even came back with us after to our apartment we airbnbd and hungout. Vice was there and even wrote an article about it, they mentioned us! That would be the perhaps ten percent of them who were just tall, skinny dudes in cargo shorts and t-shirts, the type of outfit you generally see on college freshmen or frat dudes whose Vineyard Vines game was off due to laundry. The weirdest thing about them is that they all seemed to not know each other, and they seemed to exist as this weird tangent to the groups of well-dressed girls they were standing with. Did these dudes not know? They must have known. There is no way that they could have found themselves at a party that was largely unpublicized and whose existence was kept at a de facto need-to-know basis from even those staying in the hotel itself. Their grandparents must have invented the color yellow, or toilet paper.

Will be there for sure.

Aww man this rips!!
Got my eye on: Tank + the Bangas 6/20 ; Calexico + Iron and Wine + Adia Victory 6/21 ; Tortoise plays TNT 6/22 ; Liz Phair / Ted Leo / Caroline Rose 6/29 ; Van Dyke Parks (Omggg!!!) 7/12 ; and that Nilufer Yanya set with the surprise headliner on 7/25.
Gonna be out of town for Sudan Archives, Mick Jenkins, and Oddisee which is a bummer but still, this looks amazing.

Not as amazing as last year's lineup, but I'm sure I'll go to a lot of these shows. Liz Phair/Ted Leo and I'm With Her caught my eye immediately (fun fact: Aoife O'Donovan lives in our neighborhood). As I entered the schedule into my Google Calendar, I became more excited despite not being familiar with a lot of the artists. Also pleased to see that there aren't a ton of conflicts with shows I already had on my radar.
