The first free BRIC Prospect Park show of the summer is Brittany Howard on June 9th! I was only sorta into her solo record, but I'm def gonna try my best to make this show.

For those who have seen American Utopia, what should one expect to pay for tickets if the main goal is being in the room and having an unobstructed view? My mom and I are thinking about trying to go during its extended run and we’re trying to figure out how much this whole adventure will cost

I'd shoot for front of the balcony, those were <$100 as I recall and the only cheaper ones ($70 maybe?) were literally last row of the balcony and there's a bar behind you so it'd be noisy. Not obstructed but less than ideal.

Note that it's kind of a lot of stairs up there and there's no elevator just in case your mom has any mobility issues (she's probably younger than me lol)

You could hang out with me and my mom. Just don’t talk about weed or say “goddamn” in front of her.

Did y’all see Rough Trade’s new location? It’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza which seems… very different. Apparently they will curate live shows outdoors in the plaza and also in the Rainbow Room on the 65th floor. I guess that might be cool but the old venue was one of my top three rooms in NYC.

Apparently they will curate live shows outdoors in the plaza and also in the Rainbow Room on the 65th floor. I guess that might be cool but the old venue was one of my top three rooms in NYC. Yeaaa I'm not thrilled about this. I really loved their old space - the venue was intimate and warm, and they had great booking. I also loved milling around the store before shows or in between sets, even. The size downgrade for the store itself seems pretty significant (10,000 sq ft to 2,000), which sucks. I imagine they'll fit the records in that space, but the CDs, books, shirts, and cool miscellaneous stuff is probably gone. Which sucks, IMO. It was a solid record store, but I loved killing time in those random sections, especially the book area. Now it's just another new release-heavy record store. So it goes. I hope the shows keep the same booking people - the idea of seeing the people I saw at old RT (Mannequin Pussy, Liz Cooper + the Stampede, Charly Bliss, etc) at Rainbow Room is dope, but hopefully the ticket prices don't jump to accommodate the higher rent. I guess, as of now, I'm not expecting to love this move. Maybe it'll pleasantly surprise me? We'll see...

Fun fact, you're actually complimenting a former boarder re: the past bookings. I also know it will not be the same booker, as the new one is my former boss, ha, or at least she'll be heavily involved. Still should be good stuff.

Y’all probably saw this earlier, but Ari Lennox (with Kamauu and Nesta opening) is the opening night headliner for Celebrate Brooklyn! on July 31. Not really my thing, but I can’t wait to get back to the bandshell.

Actually saw her open for Lizzo at Radio City a few years ago, and enjoyed her set, tho I was unfamiliar w/ her music
