It's a pretty good day for music. I've already hyped up new Weather Station and it's P4K review will lead to most checking it out, but the debut from Black Country New Road is great if you like that off-kilter post-punk like black midi. There's a Kanye reference in a song that I thought was funny the first few times but now find it dumb, but that aside it's a fun listen. There's also a new Telescopes record out, for anyone interested in the drone-gaze era that they've been in since the 2010s. This one's a bit more rocking though, lots of fuzz, lots of riffage (for them). I'm half way through the new Hayley Williams and don't hate it. Really fucking with this BC,NR record. So happy they've finally dropped this, been following them since reddit caught wind of the original version of Athens, France like almost two years ago now. I think this grabs me more than the Black Midi record, but it's tough to say after one listen. Excited for the forthcoming Squid record, from this scene. Edit: Oh SHIT "Opus" just kicked in - this is probably my favorite album of the year, so far

Didn't feel any type of way about this one. Was it bad? No, not in the least. Did any part of it grab my attention? Also no!

oh hey the new Foo Fighters is my favorite of theirs since Wasting Light. it helps that it's only 36 minutes as opposed to that last two that felt like they were 3 hours long edit: new Cult of Luna sounds like pretty much every other Cult of Luna ever. which is fine. there's only one Mark Lanegan track unfortunately and i was expecting him to be on the whole album. I'm not here to start having opinions on the foo fighters but it is funny that they made 7 really good foo fighters songs and than made 2 really bad ones and made those the singles.

Revisiting this old favorite today. I remember stumbling on this right after Pitchfork gave it a nice review in 2014 and feeling completely blown away by it. I hadn't yet heard the bands Ought frequently references (The Fall; Raincoats; Life Without Buildings), so this really felt like it was beamed in from outer space. Still my favorite record of the 2010s-current post-punk revival. Really hope they're not broken up, as is rumored.

Way too high to search for the album cover but Black Country new road is early AOTY material I've listened to this about once a day since it dropped, still fascinated with it. The Discourse about it on reddit/twitter is tiring, but the album itself is such a wild collage of influences and left turns that there's always some new detail I notice with every listen. That said, I totally get why people wouldn't like the album / this style, but the blown out sax lines, illogical structures, and frenzied vocals keep me coming back to it over and over.

I saw on one of the blogs they did a cover of MGMT and it makes a lot of sense!

All the blogs say this is pretty good and I too would like to timely chime in with a "same". Her moniker is Miss Grit and there's at least one song on there that I would've believed was an SVE song

I'm a week late to this party, as he seemed to dominate bandcamp day, but this Ryley Walker / Kikagaku Moyo joint is the best jams of the year. Some really great stuff here. Ryley does not miss. Edit: Seriously I'm on my second listen of the morning, and the last five minutes of this are mind-blowing

Hard to imagine she's not on all the festival lineups this fall, assuming those happen I mean.

"Long Haired Lady" is the best post-Beatles McCartney track

Gotta be one of the all-time highest Great Album : Terrible Album Cover ratios, right? Warren simply does not miss on this and his self-titled.

^That would be a perfect album for me, if not for 'Nighttime at the Switching Yard'.

^That would be a perfect album for me, if not for 'Nighttime at the Switching Yard'. irt Excitable Boy Ahh I'm actually a fan of that song, tho it's definitely on the lower tier of the album. I like its groove, very Shakedown Street-adjacent. That said, it doesn't have much a right to be the longest song on the record and, upon further review, the only song I'd have below it is "Veracruz". What's your favorite? I'm stuck between Accidentally Like A Martyr and Lawyers, Guns, and Money - leaning toward the latter.
