^That would be a perfect album for me, if not for 'Nighttime at the Switching Yard'. irt Excitable Boy What's your favorite? I'm stuck between Accidentally Like A Martyr and Lawyers, Guns, and Money - leaning toward the latter. That is a tough choice. 'Accidentally' is killer. I also love the title track and 'Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner'.

I'm a week late to this party, as he seemed to dominate bandcamp day, but this Ryley Walker / Kikagaku Moyo joint is the best jams of the year. Some really great stuff here. Ryley does not miss. Edit: Seriously I'm on my second listen of the morning, and the last five minutes of this are mind-blowing I've still only heard like 15 albums this year, but this is absolutely my AOTY so far. Spellbinding. I've listened to it once a day since this first post.

This is such a terrific debut album. Strong Adrianne Lenker/Julia Jacklin/Haley Heynderickx vibes. She will probably be a star Katy Kirby - Cool Dry Place

This has to be one of the better looking release days of the year - I've got Wild Pink, Katy Kirby, Cassandra Jenkins, Hand Habits, The Hold Steady, and Mogwai on my list.

In the meantime, I wanna vouch for this excellent record, Cactus Lee's Texas Music Forever, which came out back in January. Been revisiting it a lot this week, gotta be my favorite country release of the year so far. Front half is mostly just voice and guitar, and it's got some good cuts, but the back half brings in the full band with some seriously sublime pedal steel playing. Literally every song on the B-side is great. Fans of Dougie Poole's last record should dig this one, a similar sense of humor pervades Lee's writing. Check it out!

Unfortunately, not great. Only like 2 songs really stood out, and I already forgot which ones they were. Oh well.

I'm not a big Hold Steady fan, but I opted to review it and spent quite a bit of time with it. Ultimately warmed up to it enough to give it a positive review. But I am also unlikely to listen to it again.

This has to be one of the better looking release days of the year - I've got Wild Pink, Katy Kirby, Cassandra Jenkins, Hand Habits... These four were all excellent! Wild Pink's new one was gorgeous on first listen, really enamored with the sounds they were able to produce. Lots of shimmering layered guitar and pedal steel effects. Need another listen to really focus on the lyrics and melodies. Katy Kirby's record was phenomenal. Dij is on the money with the comparisons to Adrianne Lenker and Haley Heynderickx, I heard a bit of Jen Cloher and even some Sylvan Esso at times. It's a quick listen and features one of the best songs of the year (the title track) - check it out! Hand Habits' EP is barely more than a single, only three tracks, one of which is a remix (albeit a cool one, by Katie Dey). But the two new tracks are both among the best they've ever made, IMO. Would recommend sampling that one. And I just finished the P4k-approved album by Cassandra Jenkins and am very much impressed by it. Def seems like the New Age renaissance has arrived, hail hail to Beverly Glenn-Copeland! This also gave me Lambchop vibes throughout and features, on first blush, some of my favorite lyricism of the year. This week finally got me hyped on 2021 releases!

Found out that the album has "Ratboys’ Julia Steiner on backing vocals, Magnolia Electric Company’s Mike “Slo Mo” Brenner on pedal steel, and members of San Fermin lending various kinds of orchestral splendor". This is awesome

I'm trying not to say stuff like this as much on release days, but, whatever, this is prolly my new AOTY.

There's probably a mood required to be into this Cassandra Jenkins album and my current one definitely isn't it.

Harakiri for the Sky - Maeredefinitely my recommendation for this week. fantastic mix of post hardcore, black metal, thrash, etc. it's certainly a little too long but it is worth it for every tasty riff and breakdown

Yes I thought it was very good. Mould is a big blind spot which makes no sense given what I listen to but hey better late than never right? Other olds may chime in with further listening recommendations
