New album pls Joanna But seriously: few songs put a smile on my face as consistently as "Inflammatory Writ" I was reading that after having her kid and not playing for a while she basically had to re-teach herself the harp. She was ready to go for that 2019 tour but I guess it took some work. Would love new music from her but I’m gonna guess that doesn’t happen for a while. Ahh know that you mention it, I remember that article. Can't believe its already been 6 years since Divers, but she literally never misses - no rush, Joanna!

This is a really solid release day ya'll. First starters, I love the new Antlers record, it's a step up from the greyish Familiars (which is still a great album). It might take a few listens for some to appreciate it but I think it's solid. the new serpentwithfeet is a BNM contender and I'd say an excellent follow-up, tho I think I prefer the songwriting approach on Soil more. To me, the new Tune-Yards is her best since WhoKill in 2011, and Armand Hammer's Haram is the best rap album of the year so far. There's also new DFA 1979 which is decent, and I have Xiu Xiu, Civic, Lost Girls, and Floatie to check out.

I want to listen to new releases today, but it's 75 degrees outside which means one thing and one thing only:

Settling in with this one this afternoon - and it's absolute gold. Certainly more of an experimental minimalist piece than a jazz record, but FP's compositions and Pharoah solos are inspired. Movement 7 was the peak for me - Pharoah really ascends there, tho the strings in Movement 6 were also a clear highlight. I anticipate many listens of this while I write my Master's thesis in the next month.

Probably my favorite thing I've heard on first listen and I expect it to be up there on my list year-end. Take in one sitting-it's 46 minutes long.

the new serpentwithfeet is a BNM contender and I'd say an excellent follow-up, tho I think I prefer the songwriting approach on Soil more. Loved this! Just finished my first listen - the bookend tracks were my faves, with "Fellowship" making me realize how much I want a new Sampha album Interested in the Armand Hammer release, but am honestly putting it off b/c of the album cover...

I'm surprised DEACON didn't get a BNM honestly. It's getting high marks everywhere else. Regardless, it's still wonderful. Armand Hammer is going to be a challenging listen, but I think it's worth it. The cover art, while nasty, does tie into the theme. Still not a fun picture to look at.

Agreed on the serpentwithfeet album, surprised that didn't get a BNM too. It met my expectations, which were pretty high.
New Antlers was good, I have to go back to that a few times to decide my feelings for sure, typical for them.
Listened to the new Clark album too, it's fine for electronic/instrumental stuff. Going to move on to Armand Hammer and Floating Points tomorrow.

I basically started following new releases for the first time about a month before this dropped. Then it was first album I reviewed for my high school newspaper! I def dropped an "ethereal" somewhere in that review lmao. Anyways, I was so excited that I copped the mbv LP that week and have returned to the record periodically over the years. Happy to have it on streaming now - it still sounds incredible. "New You" is probably my favorite, tho "Only Tomorrow" is a close second. Edit: Fuck, I forgot how good "in another way" is

It's too bad you weren't a member back when this dropped. It was a 2 am party on the board with several waiting on like one person to share the mp3s and he just so happened to be drunk on box wine. But it happened and it was glorious.

I gotta get another Spacemen 3 t-shirt. I had one a few years back and that shit was a guaranteed conversation starter (usually w/ 40-50 y/o men before shows and/or college radio alums). Anyways... Suicide > Lord Can You Hear Me is one of the GOAT transitions of Jason Pierce's career - in which there are many contenders. Listening to the new Telescopes record since Tim has it so high in his rankings - was on the fence for the first two tracks, but "Mesmerised" is straight up incredible. Excited for the rest!

Catching up on February releases, and the Cassandra Jenkins album is really great. Also thought the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album was surprisingly good.

Genuinely obsessed with this record - have listened to it four times in the last two days, just completely infectious. Has me wanting to dig back through the Deerhoof catalogue, or at least the last few Guerilla Toss records.
