Finally listened to this today and liked it more than I was expecting to, but much less than NFR. "Wild at Heart" and "Dance Till We Die" are awesome and "White Dress" is pretty cool too - plus Weyes Blood bringing home the Joni cover was really nice. But pretty much every track that brought back her pre-NFR sound turned me off. It was good not great, to me, overall.

Anybody check this one out yet? Genesis Owusu - Smiling With No Teeth, I just finished my first listen and am a huge fan. Stylistically all over the place, it's got off-kilter R&B, some funk, some punk, and rap a la Young Fathers or something. Really engaging, occasionally very visceral, occasionally very funny. One of the more interesting new records I've heard this year. Sometimes it sounds like SAULT, sometimes like Rex Orange County, sometimes like Bartees Strange, but it's altogether one of the more singular records I've heard in a while.

Yeah it's very Bartees Strange-esque which leads to a thin comparison to TVOTR I think. It's a fun record for sure, even my wife digs it. I don't think the cover art is very indicative of the music though, so maybe some will be avoiding it as a result.

New Spirit of the Beehive is great. Wasn't sure if it'd get a BNM but glad it did.

Also psyched to check out the new Damon Locks album. Wow this was weird! But I think I liked it? Def was intrigued enough to give it a second listen sometime later today.

Spirit of the beehive is a good band. A friend of mine’s brother is in it so I assume they’re all good people too

Their previous work leans more shoegaze but this one is a bit of a departure and mixes a lot more of this weird post punk in and I'm 100% here for it.

Yea I wasn't sure if I was into what I was hearing until "It Might Take Some Time" and "Wake Up," then I was pretty sold. The bizarrely harmonized vocals on those tracks really hooked me in. Listening to the Damon Locks record now - and it's great, to no surprise. Just wish it was longer than 30 minutes.

New Small Black ain't bad, the last song Song To Ruin might be my favorite. I'll be checking out Spirit of the Beehive next

New Mogwai is really good but I always feel guilty listening to them because the dude that introduced me to them in college ended up becoming a Proud Boy :/

Digging this on first listen. It alternates between Animal Collective and black and white tv static at times. I remember the last album being....less weird than this. Some of you will think they are just another blog band and they might very well be but I can also promise there's not been an album this risky that the blogs have championed in a while.

I didn't think this was better than Turn Out the Lights but I also didn't think it tried to be? There are several good songs on here and I'm sure I'll be going back to it, especially since I have a ticket to see her in a few months (remember shows?). It's also been 4 years since her last stand alone album which seems like a long time!

I was really expecting the new Brockhampton to suck, but it doesn't. It's a step up from Ginger, maybe a little bit more pop-laden than previous material but overall it was good.

I thought Brockhampton was cancelled...was that not a thing? The predator got booted very shortly after it came to light which was not a popular decision with the fan base but for sure the right call

Returned to this today and am blown away anew. Had this at #10 on my Q1 rankings, but that was def and underrating. "Lavender Fields" destroyed me today, but the "This morning is amazing and so are you" refrain on "Balcony Man" might be my favorite moment overall.

It's wonderful.
