I've been listening to that one in the morning once a week, works better for me that way. Still very interested in seeing her at Primavera

Liars - The Apple Drop.
Digging it. Kind of a bigger sound than I was expecting.

Very good on the first listen, need to spend more time and dig into it more though. Not quite as dramatic or as abrasive as CALIGULA, but still very good.

I have not posted album covers in this thread, but given that I am not in the vinyl thread, rules are I do not need to post album covers in here if I don't wanna. And I'm drunk so I don't wanna. Here are some albums I listened to recently that are good: Cola Boyy: the big picture up above. The circles of "shit this board should like" and "music that is good music" is almost on top of one another. Will somebody else talk about this in here, please and thank you. MIKE- After teekoh said this guy was good like 2 years ago I finally checked him out and he is in fact good. teekoh what is the next album of his I should listen to I'll get to it in like 8 months randomly. Leon Bridges- If you liked that EP he put out with Khruagbin last year or two years ago (time is frozen in this current hellhole stretch of modern life) you should like this. This man is probably playing Coachella and they better give him a sweet sunset going down spot on whatever that one stage was. If he were to ever cover a Grateful Dead song I think "Sugaree" would be the best pick for him. If this happens in 6 months imma follow the breadcrumbs from this post. John Mayer- Anyone who likes this has clearly never listened to Little Feat. Get your head outta your ass. Origami Angel- this is one of those "rock band" albums that would probably be better if it were like 10-15 minutes shorter. Also, the Pokemon/child's cartoon clips are toeing the fine line between "turning art into more art" and "simping for a brand". Shelly FKA Dram- I don't know why you'd change from an easily recognizable moniker to a name that I have saved 3 times in my phone with last names varying from "idk" to "friend of "x"". It's also his first album since 2016 which seems....not right? "Broccoli" was huge! This album is worth a once over generally speaking. I saved 2-3 tunes to my big playlist. UV-TV: nothing fancy, just really good punk/post-punk/blue collar guitar music. It's that classic <30 minute new album that ends up in my top 30 at like years end. Tune in next time for when I get another beer, and write about the older albums I've listened to recently over this stretch of ~96 hours.

Old albums I've been listening to in the last 96 hours as I came out of what we'll call a "post festival depression": The Stooges- s/t: boy this is one of the good ones ain't it Coldplay- Viva La Vida or "Death and All His Friends": I probably hadn't listened to this thing since high school. If someone ever asks you to define suburban mom rock, you can point to pretty much any Coldplay release and be considered correct. It is pretty fucking funny that whatever idiot from Maroon 5/The Masked Singer or whatever recently said "there are no more bands" when I feel like they've been in the shadow of Coldplay pretty much throughout my life. Anyway the French Revolution shit is overplayed and "Lovers in Japan" still slaps. This band should play Lolla again especially since REM will never get back together. The Pastels- Truckload of Trouble: This was my first time listening to this, and I dunno if it was my headspace or what, but I couldn't get into it at all. If someone loves this album, please feel free to sell me on trying it again. I made it 10 songs in before I turned it off. Linkin Park- Meteora: To put this on at 3:20pm on a weekday really took me back, man. Tom Petty- Damn the Torpedos: Somehow I think this was my first listen to this cover to cover and I guess there's a reason I only liked "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That". Icona Pop- This Is...Icona Pop: IT's easy to say that the one song with Charli is the only thing notable about this but they were a fun show at Lolla 2012 or 13 (I met neader there?) and they were a fun show then. This was a fun album at the time too, and now....it's less fun, but there's still some fun in there. Probably a reason there's never been much follow up here though! Consider This From NPR: About all the news I can handle these days. Talk Talk- Laughing Stock: probably been a good 4-5 years since I thought about this band. They were a good band. If someone purposely defied their record label today almost none of it would be because of artistic direction of the sound because what the fuck is a record label these days even. "New Grass" is still a trip. Sum 41- Does This Look Infected: This is probably the 3rd or 4th best Sum 41 album and I'm not going to clarify this take further.

Can’t go wrong with MIKE’s stuff, but my faves are May God Bless Your Hustle, Renaissance Man, and Tears of Joy.

A Coldplay festival set would be one of few plausible scenarios where I insta-buy a ticket to Lolla

Sure, the Lingua Ignota album is good. But is it too good? Like is it even fair to make an album this good? Hard to say.

Boy this Lorde album is a snoozer.
I enjoyed Mood Ring, California, and Fallen Fruit a bit though. Hopefully her sets in the upcoming years aren't super heavy on this.

I'm also a bit disappointed in the Lorde album
There's two bonus tracks that aren't on streaming services and while I get where they don't fit the album theme, both would have been some of the best on the album

Yep, if you did not care much for the title track, then the rest of the Lorde album will be a snooze. Mood Ring was probably my favorite on there. Too bad.

This was fine - was hoping that the tepid reception would lower my expectations enough that I'd really like it, but instead I feel similarly lukewarm. Am not thrilled with the Mac Demarco-core turn in instrumentals - really missed drums for most of the album. Her albums had had really great, distinctive drum sounds before. Oceanic Feeling was definitely my favorite song on first listen, tho I still really like the title track. Not much really connected with me though. What did y'all think?

It is a Good album. I get why people don't like it but considering how groundbreaking the first two albums were I imagine it wasn't going to be better than them, nor was it intended to be. Some of these songs will probably be a lot better live than on album and no I'm not just saying that to justify $350 worth of tickets I bought a few weeks ago to see her.
