The Vaccines put out another album in the last week or two, and once again it is very solid

I listened to the Sincere Engineer album and I'm hoping that band gets bigger in the coming months, cause the album was really good. Feels like there aren't many if any singers that sound like Deanna these days.

I cannot say enough good things about this album. Anyone who's remotely interested in jazz should seek this out ASAP (bandcamp only rn).

I've never really liked anything by Chvrches before, but I've been listening to this frequently and even purchased the vinyl.

Reading Jesse Jarnow's Big Day Coming on Yo La Tengo and the Hoboken indie rock scene centered around Maxwell's. been a great read so far, and it has me revisiting some jangle rock classics that I binged on during my sophomore and junior years of college. The first Feelies record is a 10/10 masterpiece, IMO. I hadn't heard it in a few years and it blew me away all over again w/ it's syncopated insanity and breakneck, hyperactive riffing. It's completely awash with energy. Their second record is wildly different - looking more for pastoral textures, but it's a triumph. Slipping (Into Something) might actually be their best song, and maybe the best Velvet Underground aping I've ever heard. I was briefly into The Clean when digging through Flying Nun stuff doing college radio, but now I'm appreciating them a bit more? Especially re-contextualizing them as a major source of inspiration for YLT. "Point That Somewhere Else" and "Anything Could Happen" especially. And the Soft Boys are just too good. I revisited this one a few times already this year, and it keeps getting better. If I wanted to listen to more Robyn Hitchcock, where should I start?

If I wanted to listen to more Robyn Hitchcock, where should I start? If you want more Soft Boys, go with A Can of Bees. It's got 'Leppo and the Jooves', one of their best songs. Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians' Element of Light is also really good.

This thread is DEAD, let's get some more action in here. I know y'all are listening to albums, right? This morning I started off with an old favorite, Mekons' Fear and Whiskey. I got into this when I was trawling through Pitchfork's original best of the 80s list, then played the shit out of our station's LP when DJing at WHPK. Haven't heard it in a while, but I've been revisiting some 80s indie faves lately (Soft Boys, The Clean, Feelies, Dino Jr), and remembered this bad boy. It's one of the seminal cowpunk albums, or maybe even one of the first alt-country records? The line b/w those genres is fairly nebulous. Regardless, the ramshackle arrangements and strong electric fiddle leads rule. Last Dance, Flitcraft, and Chivalry are my faves. But don't sleep on the Dirty Projectors-esque vocals on "Trouble Down South."

Not sure if the board is sleeping on this one, but it's still very good. Reminds me a ton of the mellower side of Yo La Tengo. They're opening for Half Waif here at Schubas, kind of surprised that show isn't sold out yet

Gonna listen to this next, now - yr welcome Update: still one of the best Superchunk albums. Their discog suffers a little from the AC/DC effect ("we have 11 albums of they all sound the same"), but this has Mac channeling his inner-J Mascis and shredding the shit out of these songs. Void, Low F, and Your Theme especially.

Ok you want music, monastery, you got it. The album I've been listening to the most lately, including today, is the Dion album he made with Phil Spector in 1975, Born to Be With You
Idk how to embed albums on this stupid website so let's hope that works. I'm guessing most people here know the story, but the album was a major bust when it came out and then kind of had a second life in the 90s once people like Bobby Gillespie and Jason Pierce started citing it as an influence. I think an interviewer asked Dion about it once and he was just baffled that anyone would like the album. Huge old Italian guy energy which rocks IMO. But it's an awesome album and on a lot of the tracks you can really hear why J Spaceman would love this shit. The Spotify version is the reissue that includes Streetheart which isn't as good.
Happy Italian American History month everyone.

But I haven't listened beyond that. Dion rules tho - saw him like 15 years ago when I was a wee lad and I remember him sounding good. Will check it out!
