 This one's a nice record, but it doesn't feel essential the way her first two LPs, and half of her third, do. Highlights for me were the guitar solo in Turning Green, and the jangle-poppiness of Write A List Of Things To Look Forward To. But it doesn't have a track that knocks you off your feet, a la "City Looks Pretty," or damn near half of Sometimes I Sit. |

This one's a nice record, but it doesn't feel essential the way her first two LPs, and half of her third, do. Highlights for me were the guitar solo in Turning Green, and the jangle-poppiness of Write A List Of Things To Look Forward To. But it doesn't have a track that knocks you off your feet, a la "City Looks Pretty," or damn near half of Sometimes I Sit. Listened to it again, and I liked it more the second time. I stand by what I said about individual songs, but as a collection I may prefer it to her last one, which I never return to in full these days. What this does, however, is make me want to listen to Lotta Sea Lice, which I'm doing right now. |

Cortney Barnett album is pretty solid. Helps that it's short. I expect it'll grow on me a lot as the winter goes on. A couple of the new songs make me really wanna plan to try and see that Chicago Theatre show.
New Idles album is better than the last one but I still like Joy better. Some of these lyrics are still corny as hell but it's clear the rest of the band is in tip-top shape.

I think it’s a matter of when rather than if. They did a few one off shows a couple years back and they all enjoy each other/enjoy playing music with each other it seems.

 I'm very late to this one, but it's a stunner. I like it a lot more than Double Negative, which - while impressive - didn't really connect with me back in 2018. Maybe I owe it another listen soon? |
