Listened to If You're Reading This It's Too Late this morning. Still his best work imo.

Currently reading Steve Krakow's A Secret History of Chicago Music, a compilation of his columns in the Reader, and absolutely loving it. I'm building a monster playlist to listen along to, and I will share a pared down version of my favorites on here once I'm done. Right now, these two albums have been incredible discoveries. First is like an even more minimal, wildly more morose version of Dry Cleaning. And the second is a late 70s funk masterpiece. Also digging tracks by Care of the Cow, Aorta, Cave Dwellers, and Boscoe.

Hard to overstate how good the Carcass record is from earlier this year. Holy moly.

Been a while since I sat down with this one. Used to listen to Eno/Fripp all the time in college - we had a vinyl compilation of hits from his first couple records that I'd play on WHPK all the time. If you were awake between 4-6am on Mondays and listening to 88.5FM, chances are you'll recognize a track or two from this one.

If I had a nickel for every time I played "On Some Faraway Beach" between 4 and 8am, I'd have... like... probably three or four nickels.

I am planning to cue up ambient 1 this afternoon Crazy that this man, like, helped invent and perfect glam rock, then went and invented a whole nother genre. Then fucked around and elevated Bowie and Byrne to their creative peaks. AND after all that, he may be most publicly known as U2 and Coldplay's producer. What a King.

This is, IMO, the defining document of Television's career. A jaw-dropping display of their jammy punk wizardry at the height of their powers. You get the three best cuts from Marquee Moon (including an incendiary 14 minute take on the title track), intricate, powerful guitar work on "Ain't That Nothin," and a mind-melting 12-minute version of "Little Johnny Jewel," the highlight of this set and - perhaps - the band's career. Can't recommend enough.

First snow of the year = revisiting an old friend, my first Wilco show

First snow of the year = revisiting an old friend, my first Wilco show Random thought / debate: I remember whoever introduced the band this night (Lin Brehmer, maybe?) called them: "The World's Greatest American Band" or something like that. Had me thinking: who do you think is the Greatest American Band of, say, the post-Nirvana world? I wanted to let this dip into the 90s, so we could properly include two of my first thoughts: Wilco and Yo La Tengo. Let's discuss! Edit: I would obviously include Phish here as well, but that almost feels like cheating / pandering to the heads. Edit II: Plus, I feel like studio albums fell them here, even though I'm a sympathizer with their LPs. Wilco and YLT consistently produce great studio records, great live shows, and have other intangibles I feel are important (willingness to evolve, dedicated fan community, outward passion for music nerdiness).

I mean anyone ranking any of his stuff over the Trilogy tapes is objectively wrong but this might be the best "album" he's put out since then.

One of the best, most fun records. Still need to check out that Sparks documentary that Edgar Wright did. Anyone here see it?
