Got to this one yesterday that aquarium drunkard’s been hyping up. I think this dude was a roadie for Big Thief for a while so that should be up someone’s alley. Psych country sounding? I’m enjoying it.

Cleansing the TL of Muse-posting. I've been reading Warren Ellis' Nina Simone's Gum and revisiting her catalogue. I've really enjoyed diving into her 70s-80s records, of which this is a major highlight. "Isn't It A Pity" in particular is profoundly moving and a tremendous upgrade over George Harrison's (already great) original. Check it out.

P4k is correct on the new Sudan Archives, it's a banger. Still expecting her to blow up on this release, that review should help.
New Afghan Whigs is solid as usual, a little slower and tamer in spots than I would like, but it's mostly pretty good.
Still have tons of new stuff to get to from last week.

I haven't listened to much new music since the 80s project started (made exceptions for Eli Winter's big comeup and Beyonce, of course), and I'm now working through a massive backlog of July-September releases. Which of these should I prioritize? What is under-the-radar that I'm missing?
-- Party Dozen -- Rico Nasty -- Beach Bunny -- John Moreland -- Friendship -- Chat Pile -- Panda Bear -- Tony Molina -- Kiwi Jr -- Mountain Goats -- Spielbergs -- Oneida -- Rachika Nayar -- Julia Jacklin -- Stella Donnelly -- Roc Marciano -- Sports Team -- Ezra Furman -- Chris Forsyth -- Mo Troper -- Bill Orcutt -- Moor Mother -- Jockstrap -- Sudan Archives -- Built To Spill -- Charley Crockett -- Bitchin Bajas
Also apparently there's a new Whitney album this Friday? Man, they fell off.

Also just finishing this Rachika Nayar album, and it is definitely worth a listen too. Kind of similar to the HAAi album from this summer

Absolutely batshit record from Georgia of Black Country, New Road. Really, like a tremendous synthpop record glitched the fuck up and distorted until it's even better. Feels like Julia Holter produced by 100 gecs or something. Huge recommendation.

The Midnight - HEROES Definitely in my top 25 albums for this year. I hope Lolla books them for next year.

A reminder to those who I told I was going to see this show last night, you should listen to this album if you have not yet. I think it was ultravisitor who said the lyrics can be pretty cringe at times, that is correct, but there are still some solid beats on this one ( concertgoer especially looking at you)

He features on the eponymous album by the Medicine Singers, which I listened to last night and was floored by. They're a quartet of pow wow drummers and singers that stretch and bend the limits of their sound into avant-jazz and hazy psych rock sounds. The record also features Yonatan Gat (one of my favorite guitarists and a frequent collaborator with the Medicine Singers) and the Late, Great Jaimie Branch, whose two tracks are the album's highlights.

No Age back to doing weird, not rock music. It’s fine.
Been enjoying this Beths album. Does the rest of their stuff sound like this- I’ve not checked them out until today

Gave it a shot since it got the Ian Cohen bump and I think this is probably the best death cab album since 2008 (low bar!)

I've listened to like 25 new albums in the last week or so since posting that mega list. Most of them have been forgettably good, but a few were straight-up stunners. Here are two songs I heard today that literally made my jaw drop:
