Bumping this onto the new page - any Aldous Harding heads here would really love that Naima Bock album. Give it a whirl!

That Sudan Archives album is a masterpiece. I thought she had levelled up in a major way when I caught her at Big Ears, and holy shit - she really has.

New Mountain Goats record is the most I've liked one of their (hi-fi) releases since Beat the Champ. Why was the reception so muted on this one? It sounds, like, way different (relatively, I know) from the past cycle - much more muscular and electric. John even lets loose with a lil jammy solo at the end of Hostages!

New Makaya McCraven is great as always. It's a very concise, focused 41 minutes - one of the best jazz records of the year so far. Early press for this record has it has his masterpiece, but - at first blush - I don't rate it ahead of Universal Beings. It's maybe a tad too understated for me to really love it on that level.
I will say though, I saw him on Monday night at Public Records in Brooklyn and it was a breathtaking show. The circumstances were pretty unique (small venue w/ impeccable sound), but it was one of the most thrilling jazz sets I've seen. So I was pretty hype for this record, particularly the title track, which blew the roof off the place on Monday. That energy did not really come through on record though, sadly. So maybe my reaction is a bit muted today as I adjust my expectations. The record is undoubtedly gorgeous. Subtle. An earworm. And 100% worth your time. Do check it out - and maybe it'll grow in my estimation from great to Great. We'll see!

That new Alex G album is real real good. The cover art and name of album is terrible. But luckily it’s the contents inside that matter. The last 2 songs are probably the best back to back I’ve ever heard him do on an album
I also listened to “quaalude lullabies” which will get varying miles in the country crowd here depending on how fuckin depressed you wanna be in any particular moment

I really dig the new Whitney album. Incredibly easy listen that will be on a lot in the background.
Tbf I probably wouldn't have really given it a second thought though if it was a random band's debut album.

Finally remembered to listen to this, thankfully it's much closer to the debut than the second album. Very good improvement.

Comet is Coming has some high points but I think the last one was a better album cover to cover

New Bjork is excellent as expected, no surprise there. If you like and know Fujiya & Miyagi, you know exactly what to expect from their new one, and it delivers.

Shout-out to The Algorithm for shuffling this on after I finished up my first listen of the (gorgeous and challenging) new Bjork record. Brb about to get re-obsessed with Stereolab

As a "big fan" of Lou Reed I enjoyed this neat little historical document. Weird that John Cale doesn't seem to be named in the title at least

Been listening to a lot of Goose lately. Idk, something about Rick's lead playing clicked with me and I am enjoying them in much larger doses than I've done before. Anyways, they dropped another show on Spotify, one that seems to be the fans' consensus best show of the year. "Red Bird" here is particularly awesome (and if you like it, try the version from 2/12/22 which is even better).

There’s no way this Alvvays album is as good as people are saying it is. Check back in like 3 hours to see if I’m right

There’s no way this Alvvays album is as good as people are saying it is. Check back in like 3 hours to see if I’m right it is Good but it can’t be that good if pitchfork is currently overshadowing it on their webpage with a King Geodorrah review from like 2003
