This is a very different album compared to their other releases. It's safe/fine/decent, but for a band coming back from an 11 year hiatus, the hype is not matched here.

Will you include a Gil Scott Heron album on your "best albums of the 1970s" list, coming this summer on the boarddot.probaords.com

I got tired of it about halfway through, had to take a break. Played it again from the halfway point, enjoyed it to the end. If you like Sparks, you'll like this.

Joe wrote this one while his mother died. I think it gives this more edge than their last couple of releases. Might be hyperbole to call it an AOTY contender but it's very good, and confirmation that this is one of the best bands of the last decade. Long live Protomartyr.

Didn't really care for Janelle Monae unfortunately
The feeble little horse album was good not great but I expect it'll grow on me

Youth Lagoon album doesn't capture all the joy of The Year of Hibernation but it's the best album he's put out since then

i've only listened to this once, but not really feeling it so far. it sounds sequenced like a B-sides/rarities compilation.

Agreed with tweet on the new Janelle, it's fine, but didn't grab me at all This is the second ep from Maude Latour in the past year, and it's really good recommended for the Chali and maybe Carly Rae Jepsen fans here

I listened to the new albums from feeble little horse (very good), Jenny Lewis (boring), and Janelle Monae (extremely bad). Have a few more from the last couple weeks I’d like to catch up on but feel like I’m in a bit of a rut with not much grabbing me this year from my usual heavy hitters

Got to hear the new Sigur Ros album at their listening experience tonight. First few songs are a little slower (yes even for them) second half of the album picks up more though. Seemed promising on the first listen, but not really bombastic at all as they can be

Finally got around to this one - and I gotta say I liked it a lot more than I expected to. I caught them opening for Pavement last year and really was not feeling it. Idk, maybe it was a set and setting problem. I wasn't in the mood for weird Gen-Z noise-pop in a giant theatre, and they were loouudd to boot. It was fine, it just didn't really hook me (or anyone else around me). But the record itself is mad interesting. Nearly every track has something that grabs your attention or raises your eyebrows, and there are enough genuinely gorgeous or tuneful moments that it doesn't just feel like an exercise in sound collaging. Early faves were "Out There" and the contrast between "14" and "Buy My Product." Hopefully I'll see them again this summer in Central Park and see if I like their live show more with increased familiarity.
