Yep. This was remarkable. Need a few more listens for everything to really sink in, but it was clear my first time through that it's a winner. Probably blasphemous but I prefer it over Hopelessness. It's so wonderful. Top 5 of the year.

New Colter Wall and Blake Mills albums were v enjoyable.
Colter either owes me a tour reschedule or like $40 from his 2021 tour that never happened. Might be an anti-vaxxer too. He's canadian what can ya do

I really wanted to like this new hyped Julie Byrne album but it went in one ear and out the other. Oh well.

this reminded me of something that i can't put my finger on, but I enjoyed it He was a fun opener for Dry Cleaning back in January. I'll put this on next Edit: Sampha and early SBTRKT come to mind here. It's a really good listen if the rest of the board hasn't caught it yet Awesome record - had it on repeat for a bit last week

This is really great. (Geese - 3D Country) Agreed. Might gotta go to the Lincoln hall show Finally got around to this today - yeah, this was a nice change of pace from them. Basically just good, clean fun. Not sure I got a sense of what makes the singer tick or anything, but I did find out that this band can shred and swing for the fences. Reminded me a lot of, like, Twin Peaks or even Wolfmother at times haha.

I listened to the new albums from feeble little horse (very good), Jenny Lewis (boring), and Janelle Monae (extremely bad). Have a few more from the last couple weeks I’d like to catch up on but feel like I’m in a bit of a rut with not much grabbing me this year from my usual heavy hitters Looked for some reactions to the Feeble Little Horse record and I can def relate to this too. Feels like a down year overall. That said, I really liked the FLH album, cool to see weird, noisy bands get some buzz. Really needed something to jolt me awake after commuting to the (sadly, super boring) Kali Uchis record that came out a few months back.

New Cory Hanson record is awesome. Sounds much closer to a Wand record than his last (still good) solo album. Loads of great harmonies and solos and general shreddage. RIYL: Wand, Garcia Peoples, Chris Forsyth, etc.

Listened to the new Strange Ranger album cuz Nourished by Time is opening for them here in August and I wanna see him. They're okay! Thought they started as more of a heartland-rock / emo-lite group, but now they sound like M83 without the hooks? The M/F harmonies are nice, but there's not enough going on to grab my attention.

lindamayhanoh.bandcamp.com/album/the-glass-hoursFantastic new record from Linda May Han Oh, one of the best bassists in the game. Her first record as a leader since 2019, and it's instantly one of my favorite jazz records of the year. Her playing and arrangements are sublime, and there's some really cool piano work from her husband Fabian Almazan and vocal snippets by Sara Serpa. RIYL Vijay Iyer, Joel Ross, recent Blue Note sounds

Caught this trio in NY about a month before the fest - remains one of my favorite shows of the year. They're apparently coming to the Village Vanguard in November (?) and I want to see them again. Pretty cool when three absolute virtuosos come together and create something greater than the sum of their parts.

I had never heard any of this dude's albums before, despite seeing him live. This was pretty good, I really liked some of the lyrics.
