Some of the production is great on Kim Gordon’s new album but I can’t get into it at all The packing list masquerading as lyrics didn’t do it for you?

Came across this 2023 release from BrooklynVegan's writeup of the New Colossus Fest (which I really need to get to someday). Really fun meat-and-potatoes jangly indie rock outta the UK. They namedrop Pavement twice in their review, but really this is more like Malkmus' solo stuff. Very snappy, lots of personality, infectious group choruses, and also recognizably British, which is a huge plus IMO. Like a more ramshackle version of The Tubs or that great Chicago band from 6-7 years ago that everyone compared to Pavement. Check 'em out!

They still around? Looking for their name also brought me down memory lane of a cadre of bands from that era that I'd forgotten about: Uh Bones, Flesh Panthers, Spike & the Sweet Spots, Bleach Party, The Yolks, The Lemons, The Rubs, The Sueves. All of them seem pretty inactive nowadays. S/o to Varsity, Glyders, Cut Worms for keeping it going tho.

I had last year’s Sleep Token record on my list of things I didn’t get to and it sounds like Hozier fronting Underoath, a pairing that would likely be more interesting than this album. An abomination.

Justin Timberlake is 43 years old how is it even possible he's still this horny
Edit- This is probably his best album since FutureSex/Love Sounds. That is not an endorsement of this album necessarily

Both the Lenker and Waxahatchee albums are terrific. I've been going back and forth between the two all morning.

Just finished the Waxahatchee record. Immediately bonded with that one. I’ll give Lenker’s a spin, but I thought the pre-release tracks were dreadfully boring.

If the singles didn’t catch you, then I wouldn’t get ur hopes up for the rest of the album, much as I loved it. That said, there’s a solo version of Vampire Empire that I like WAY more than the version Big Thief put out last year.

Im hoping maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood when I listened to the singles, but yeah, might not be for me.

Listened to new albums from Nourished by Time, Waxahatchee, Adrianne Lenker, Jlin, Tyla, Julia Holter, and Rosali today. All varying degrees of good to great

Listened to Waxahatchee on the way to work. I liked it but nothing really grabbed me on first listen. That’s sort of how I felt about the last album and ended up really loving it so I imagine this one will likely be the same way.
Listened to Adrianne Lenker on the way home. I was honestly only going to listen to a song or two because I thought it would be too boring to match my spring break energy, but I really loved it and listened to the whole thing. And I wasn’t really all that into her last solo album.

Mostly listened to the new Katie which is easily my top contender for AOTY. Did listen to the new JAMC which I found...weird. Dunno how I felt about it yet. Some good cuts and some just off the wall ones. I suppose at the very least it was interesting and unpredictable.
Adrianne Lenker album is solid but definitely not as immediate as any of her previous solo or Big Thief material.
Checked out the new Blanket album, called Ceremonia. The title track initially caught my intention. It mixes shoegaze and emo and post-hardcore. I get equal bits of Finch and Nothing. I dig it.
Still need to check out Elbow, Rosali, Julia Holter, Good Morning (bc they are opening for Waxy), Alena Spanger, and the long awaited (to me) debut of Francis of Delirium. Stacked Friday for sure. Happy listening fam.

Didn't really care for the first couple songs on Adrienne Lenker's album but the back half is fantastic. I'm sure it'll grow on me when I go back to it

This Barely Civil album is pretty sick...I think some boarders would dig it (especially our resident mookie)...

The real album of the week last week (Empress Of - For Your Consideration) I did listen to that Barely Civil album too, they were on my radar since I liked their last one. That was good too, seems like they are growing and advancing a bit. Also some good shoegaze (Newmoon - Temporary Light)
