This is great, never listened to them before. Reminds me of when White Lung was actually good Bonus: They are opening the tour for METZ in a few weeks!

Ended up buying the vinyl from Bandcamp. Easily top 5 for me right now. Maybe Blue and the title track are both really terrific songs.

The real album of the week last week (Empress Of - For Your Consideration) This album cover reminds me of this mascot from the 80's:

Been spinning this a lot lately. Voice goals. Your use of the word 'spinning' momentarily got my hopes up that I had missed news of a vinyl release, but nope.

If the singles didn’t catch you, then I wouldn’t get ur hopes up for the rest of the album, much as I loved it. That said, there’s a solo version of Vampire Empire that I like WAY more than the version Big Thief put out last year. Im hoping maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood when I listened to the singles, but yeah, might not be for me. Gave this a listen tonight; I didn’t love it, but I liked it better than expected. Definitely worth another listen, though probably not jumping on the AOTY bandwagon. I appreciate that it clocks in at less than 45 minutes.

This is fun. I guess the Hive is saying its mid? I should probably see Beyonce one of these days

The new record from Sarah Shook & the Disarmers is very good on first listen.

This is fun. I guess the Hive is saying its mid? I should probably see Beyonce one of these days I actually love it which probably says a lot about me and my relationship with "pop" music. It's equally messy and ambitious at the same time. I love the covers and the randomness. It's 2024 and I listened to a Miley Cyrus song by choice. I'm probably just a "dad" now and have given into the treachery of pop-dom but I enjoyed every minute (except Bodyguard), as did my wife. Only other thing I checked out today was the new Ride album. I recently revisited their previous reunion albums with mixed feelings. I remember digging both upon release but in my jaded 40s now found them both to be rather stale. Like there is a great album between the two and the random EP they did if they just edited out some of the weaker tracks. This new one had two shitty advance singles but Monaco was enough to garner some anticipation. The result is decent. It's nothing spectacular and not on par with the Slowdive reunion material but the best Ride v2.0 is on this one in songs like "Light in a Quiet Room" and "I Came to See the Wreck" which evoke old school Ride more than anything else. Still, there's some questionable decisions on it. All of this is to say that it's 2024 and I love a Beyonce record more than a Ride record and that's seriously blowing my shoegaze-loving mind. Ps - that Newmoon record is solid. Twilight references aside their debut was the only other release I was aware of and I had to dig through my aoty.org to find that I rated it fairly. Pss - I didn't have to actually dig. They have a search box. Which I used. (I gave the debut a 76/100) If you must know.)

Beyoncé album is good although I do think it’s funny timbo highlighted Bodyguard as one he didn’t like because I think it’s the standout on the album. Different strokes. Anyways I didn’t like the last album at all so it was nice to switch it up

Finally catching up on new releases. Tiger's Blood is a real winner. Not as immediate / hook-laden as Saint Cloud, but it rewards repeat listens. 365, Lone Star Lake, and Bored are my early standouts.

New Rosali record is tremendous. A step up from her last one, I think, which was already a stunner. Probs gonna be somewhere around my year-end top 10.

Idk what her touring lineup is this year, but I caught her last year with David Nance on guitar and it fucking shredded. Should be a great show!

Excellent as expected. Pravda was probably my favorite of the ones I had not heard yet. The only one that could be tossed is The Surfer.

My daughter came into my office while I was listening to it this morning and asked me to put Gen-X Cops on her playlist. Proud dad moment.
Album is great. Excited to hear these songs live.

Wish I liked the new Vampire Weekend more than my first reaction. Everything sounds nice, but it didn't really make me feel anything in particular. Just like "Oh yeah these are nice Vampire Weekend songs." I imagine that'll change for me upon more listens, "Pravda" def the early standout though. Shoulda been a single.

I think every one of their albums has been better than the previous one, so my expectations were sky high for this. Still good, but nothing that was immediately astounding like FotB

I really like this album, it's interesting it feels much more like a follow-up to MVOTC instead of FOTB. I'll say I don't know that it is a step forward like I kind of felt like both MVOTC and FOTB were to an extent, but it's really nice to listen to and very consistent. I'd say moreso than FOTB, whose high points were maybe better but low points were worse. Part of me did kind of hope they'd go wild and jammy with this album with the way the FOTB tour went (was hoping Brian Robert Jones would be part of the band for this album but I guess he isn't) and that would have been cool but this album is good anyway
this is all initial impression though, my opinions might change I've listened to the other albums tons of times

Does anyone else have flashbacks to that one Primitive Radio Gods song when the beat drops in Mary Boone or is it just me?
Edit: Both songs sampled the beat from Soul II Soul's "Back to Life", so I guess that explains that.

Exact same as me, but I noticed they gave the credit to the guy from Soul II Soul so I figured that out fast

Haven't gotten to any new music yet but you people still saying Father of the Bride is the best Vampire Weekend album need to get a grip
