I feel like it became uncool to like this album/band over the years but it's one of the first albums that the board turned me onto back in 2008 and it holds a special place in my heart because of it. i didn't listen to this when it came out (or any nmh for that matter), but over the last few years, i go to it every few weeks - avery island too.

Some decent 2017 shoegaze. Been a pretty barren year so far.

This is excellent. I was a big fan of their debut, but this is a way more polished/tighter album. It flows much better than their last one. The Deerhunter comparisons are definitely there, but I'd also toss in a bit of A Place to Bury Strangers. You can stream it here: www.roughtrade.com/music/modern-english-decoration

Busted out the auxiliary mp3 player to screen some stuff today:
Dreamcar - Dreamcar Girlpool - Powerplant Incubus - 8 Sumac - What One Becomes
I liked Dreamcar best out of the lot. I'll be keeping that one for sure. That incubus album was....better than their last one at least.
I post from work and can't paste in pictures (and never really looked into how to do so). Is this acceptable, or should I gtfo?

Did not realize Secret Shine put out an album this year, let alone were still together.

New Music Friday! New month! And June is packed. In the next coming weeks we've got Vince Staples, Fleet Foxes, Big Thief, Ride, and a slew of others to get excited about. AOTW: Ulrika Spacek - Modern English Decoration After giving the stream a good healthy 5 listens this week, I gotta say this is better than their debut from last year, The Album Paranoia. Taking a lot of influence from 60s psych rock, much like Deerhunter, they've crafted another solid entry into 21st century shoegaze. If you were potentially turned off by the last album b/c of the muddled production, give this a shot, as its much crisper and cleaner, while still maintaining the ethos of the first album. Honorable Mention: Beach Fossils - Somersault Another shoegaze/dream pop release. Since the departure of Zachary Smith for DIIV, I was pretty certain this band was done for, as their last album wasn't that great. Not the case. This could potentially be their best album yet. Also what's out this week... Elder: Reflections of A Floating world - Strong contender for best stoner rock album of the year, this is also another highly recommended release for today. Mutoid Man: War Moans - I've listened to the first few singles from this, so if you like their past material, you're sure to like this. Cool American: Infinite Hiatus - These guys are touring with one of my recent discovers Turtlenecked. Tho not as abrasive as the former, they have a pleasant sound, leaning towards a cooled off punk. Hence the name. Institute: Subordination - This group of punkers have not really "made it" yet, but they have a solid catalog so far and the first two singles were great. Amber Coffman: City of No Reply - Former Dirty Projector's first solo record since her split from David. I've only heard one song so far and I didn't care for it, and it seems to have a split reaction around here. Dan Auerbach: Waiting on a Song - I gave up on the Black Keys after Brothers, since all they did was water down blues rock for the masses, but this is a different direction for Dan. First single was tolerable. TOPS: Sugar at the Gate - About 100 bands that already sound like this. I've listened to some of the tracks, nothing special in my book, but worth a listen. London Grammar : Truth is a Beautiful Thing - I can't remember what these guys sound like. Celebration: Wounded Healer - SG says "art-rocker." Roger Waters: Is This The Life We Really Want? - I didn't like the first single from this, but it's received decent reviews with many saying its his most accessible work in decades. Two Inch Astronaut: Can You Please Not Help - I used to like this band before they leaned emo, back when they were more punk sounding. This doesn't interest me, but I'll try it. Bleachers: Gone Now - listen at your own risk, manufactured bands like this rarely strike a chord with me. Benjamin Booker: Witness - He's not terrible, but I can't see myself listening to this very much after the songs I've heard off it. Saint Etienne: Home Counties - Also can't remember what these guys sound like. Chastity Belt: I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone - As I recall these guys are more like an electro/dance/jiggy with it type of band, which doesn't interest me. Omar Souleyman: To Syria, With Love - I've heard nothing of this yet. Hot Flash Heat Wave: Soaked - description says "fuzz-popper." There's a shit ton more that you can weed through over here: www.stereogum.com/1943347/album-of-the-week-elder-reflections-of-a-floating-world/franchises/album-of-the-week/Also, while you're at it, listen to the AOTW and join the exhilarating conversation over here: thelollaboard.proboards.com/thread/73/album-week-discussions

I really liked the Chastity Belt album. *shrug* The Elder and Ulrika Spacek albums are fantastic. I need to start on the others. I assume it's okay to skip the new Alt-J.

Institute album is great, if you like that kind of punk - Iceage like, with great riffs but that kind of sloppy speech.

Not the most consistent effort, but there's some serious hits on here.

Not the most consistent effort, but there's some serious hits on here. Was pretty disappointed in this because I thought it got super cringey in spots ("Let's Get Married" especially). The singles they released already were the only highlight for me on it

I really dig "Dreams of Mickey Mantle", but outside of that he definitely put out the best stuff as the singles.

Roger Waters: Is This The Life We Really Want? - I didn't like the first single from this, but it's received decent reviews with many saying its his most accessible work in decades. The single is the only interesting song off of the album in my opinion, which is a real disappointment.
