Oh damn, I forgot to mention that we did do a hike at the dunes. Turns out our friend's boyfriend works at the Homestead, which is a resort-type thing on the lake. We ended up staying there two of the nights, and even though it snowed and was cold and whatnot, we did do a really nice hike. It was gorgeous.

I love that shoreline. Third favorite in the US, maybe.

Berlin is probably the coolest city in Europe (and beyond) to live, and yes there are definitely a lot of nice places (there and around) to visit, and even more cool places to hang out. Definitely one of my very favourite cities in the world.
That said, I think it would be unfair to put it on par with either Paris or London overall, as these two cities are pretty much in a league of their own in Europe
In a smaller scale, Florence, Prague, Tallinn and the Island of Malta would surely by in my own top 5 of where to spend a few days in Europe as a tourist

Speaking of Europe, my boyfriend and I are pretty set on road trip throughout the Balkans, perhaps driving back via Bulgaria and Romania.
Especially excited to see Dubrovnik (have only been to Split and Zagreb in Croatia) and Sarajevo

I really think that Rome is underrated. Paris and London are great, but I'd much rather visit Rome again before either of them.

Charlotte recommendations? @stelles Birdsong Brewing is cool. Also, see Anchor Detail if you can. Also, also, hang with Seth. He’s taken me to several cool local spots.

Coincidentally, a friend flying out of ORD today commented that there ought to be a Portillo's there. Seemed so obvious after she mentioned it, yet it never occurred to me.

Figured it was inevitable for either Midway or ORD to get a location after the recent sale.

I lived in Chicago for most of my life and worked at Barney's (RIP) but I've somehow never had a chocolate cake shake.

Me either. It came up in conversation over the weekend and the person I was talking to said it was disgusting because the cake gets leaden and soggy.
I like Portillo's just fine, but they're truly middle of the pack when it comes to hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches.

Not sure anymore whether the Balkans road trip will be feasible next Summer On the plus side, I used my miles (+ USD75) to book my flight to Ethiopia for February-March (11 days)

I don't think I can swing my spring trip to Sicily anymore 😐 not nearly enough time accrued. Only downside of starting the new jerb.

I have threw hours in O'Hare terminal 2 today. Recommendations? Summer House Santa Monica or Wicker Park Seafood and Sushi. Or go to terminal 3 and hit Publican.

The walk between the two terminals would take 15 minutes at the most, and you don't have to leave and come back through security or anything.

Frontera in Terminal 3 is a good choice, too, of course. Grab a seat in their bar area and order your food there. The Terminal 1 location also has a bar, but fewer seats.

I'm definitely going to shoot for Publican when I'm back in February. I keep forgetting it's there and go to Frontera (definitely not a bad option, but still).
