Booked flights to go back to Japan in early October 2025. I went in January 2019 and have basically dreamed of going back since. I'm pumped.
My fiance has gotten us really on churning credit card points and we were able to book the flight completely on miles which is nice. Got a direct Houston to Tokyo going there. Layover coming home but the overseas part of that flight we're in a row of 2 which is great

Do you have any idea where you'll go or is it way too far in advance to think about?

Yeah I've had the *strong* itch for the last 3 years or so but had leaned towards new places but I finally decided to give in for next year. 6 years between trips is solid anyway Last time I did Tokyo-Kanazawa-Ryokan day in the mountains in a small town (an awesome experience)-Kyoto, with a day trip to Nara from Kyoto. Didn't get to do Osaka which is something I want to correct. Since my fiance hasn't been, going to retread a bit and just do the big three of Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka with I think some day trips in there, plus maybe spend another day at a Ryokan somewhere in there. I was thinking of sandwiching Tokyo since we'll be flying in and out of there. Incredibly subject to change, not to mention we may have another couple join us and I haven't really discussed with them, but I already mapped a tentative schedule out of excitement that looks like this Days 1-2: Flight lands in Tokyo around 2 on Day 1, stay around Shibuya or Shinjuku Day 3-4: Kyoto Day 5-8: Osaka, with day trips to Hiroshima and maybe Kobe Day 9: Either Ryokan day or stay in a smaller city like Hakone or Kamakura Day 10-11: Tokyo in a different neighborhood on the other side (or maybe Yokohama?), then go home Nothings locked in besides flying in and out of Tokyo, but I've been so stoked on this that I've already been mapping things out. One day I want to make it to Sapporo too but I don't think it's happening on this trip

I want to go back so badly too but I feel like I have to knock other places off my list first. Do you have any idea where you'll go or is it way too far in advance to think about? Day 9: Either Ryokan day or stay in a smaller city like Hakone or Kamakura Hakone is amazing and also has the best ryokans so you could double up on this with a trip there. You would probably need two days to get the most out of a ryokan day and the sights there (the open air museum and the ropeway over the volcano would be my musts), but I think it would be worth an extra day. Super romantic there too.

Super romantic there too. Appreciate this, I think I will add an extra day there. I only really just started looking at it and it looks awesome and definitely covers the Ryokan for the trip. I'm hoping we can add an extra day to the trip on that itinerary, have us coming home on a Saturday when could do a Sunday but the flight was randomly expensive. I'm expecting it'll come down and I'll be able to switch it edit 11/21- That Sunday flight dropped down in price this morning so I booked it! We do get an extra day.
