Great Lakes Brewing is p solid and an institution at this point. I would say avoid BrewDog and TownHall, both are bad and run by dickheads.
I really love cocktails at Porco and Cloak & Dagger but I don’t believe either are incredibly close to Jacobs Pavilion.

I should mention another highlight of the trip: we stayed at my husband's friend's house in a very leafy historic district in Detroit. before the show Friday we were walking to a spot to get food/drinks. I was admiring a nice house and the friend goes "that's jack white's house." I stare at him and blink. "of the white stripes," he says. I just about died. I wanted to take a pic but figured that might be gauche in front of a local.
then we turned the corner and came upon a house with about 40 skeletons in the yard, 10 of which being those huge ones from home depot or costco that people love. turns out...it's meg white's house. she and Jack literally share an alley. I was under the impression she was a recluse and no one knew where she spends her time, but here it is, "the Halloween house," as the friend's kids call it. she even had a couple Amazon packages sitting at her door, and apparently she's a frequent poster on the neighborhood nextdoor. I also felt kinda gauche staring but I think she's asking for it with all those skeletons and Halloween decorations.

scoots didn't you do the whiskey trail thing in Louisville a few years back? I have a few VA days to burn this fall and that might be a good short trip for me. I saw on the map how many of those distilleries are in a short walking distance in the downtown area

In terms of bang for your buck and quality, I'd probably shoot for either Bardstown or the Lexington area as opposed to Louisville if you're going to try to hit up several distilleries. You can book tours for pretty cheap and they'll pick you up at a centralized location to take you around. In Louisville, the Evan Williams Experience is actually pretty nice.

In Bardstown you'd have Heaven Hill, Willet, Preservation and Lux Row all within a really small area.

I had a good experience with Mint Julep tours several years back. Buffalo Trace and Maker's Mark had the most impressive campuses, IIRC.

It's been ages since I did the bourbon trail but the downtown distilleries were pretty meh as I recall. Though the Evan Williams Experience was wonderfully and unintentionally hilarious. Loved the Buffalo Trace campus as well.
My brother has gotten really into bourbon so I am curious about the places scoots mentioned, maybe we will do a trip sometime. Familiar with Heaven Hill of course but not the others.

Woodford is wonderful and is my favorite distillery. Wild Turkey is actually a really great option around Lexington - tours are probably some of the most informative you'll get on the trail. Makers Mark is really nice - the gimmick of dipping a bottle into the wax never disappoints. That whole Bardstown section is incredibly underrated.
My wife and I actually tried to book Buffalo Trace for a wedding venue because we were wonderfully naive about how much that would cost, and good lord.

I liked how they let you dip your finger right in the mash at Makers, but also, gross!

I recall my buddy saying something to the effect of “that Evan Williams is kind of a dick.”

Quick little weekend in Kansas City was honestly a lot of fun, first time there. There for a wedding as previously mentioned and my fiance was in it so she was pre-occupied most the weekend so it was mostly just me walking around. I went to the College Basketball Experience first which I kind of loved. Not only had the history of college basketball and the hall of fame for it, but there was tons of basketball related games, and I love basketball despite being terrible at it so that was a blast. I spent like 45 minutes trying to beat the high score on one of those arcade basketball hoop games since it was free play and there was no one waiting in line for it, in fact the place was mostly empty which also ruled. They have a game where you try to shoot a free throw but with a screen of college kids waving their arms and heckling you, which was hilarious and harder than I thought it'd be. And multiple basketball courts, I spent a while just shooting around. That took up most of my Friday honestly
Saturday I went to the National World War 1 museum which was also a cool museum. It's not near as massive as the National WW2 in New Orleans but it's similarly well thought out and set-up and felt like I learned a decent bit. Also the monument on top is huge, didn't even realize this was here until we got into town and I just googled museums around. Then I checked out Union Station, also neat. They had a Disney 100 year anniversary exhibit happening and I figured why not and checked that out, and honestly that was really neat too. They had a lot of original story boards, sketches, and props from old movies that was really neat to see, as well as costumes and props from some new movies. Another thing I didn't realize was there, though I guess it's just a temporary exhibit. But it was neat.
After that I just found a bar and watched college football until the wedding. I didn't really research anything on food and just winged it on what looked decent nearby on google. Friday lunch I did a sandwich from Pickleman's Cafe which was decent, I thought that was just a local chain but I guess it's all across the midwest. Friday night the rehearsal dinner was at Jack Stack Barbecue, which was solid enough, shared a burnt end plate with my partner. Though it didn't convert me from Texas BBQ, but I do have a list of barbecue places for a return trip now from talking to people- That's Q39, Joe's, and Buck Tui. And Saturday just had a burger at a place called BRGR Kitchen because it was easy, close to the hotel, and was showing college football games.
Honestly might take another weekend trip out there one day, I had a good time and I never even got out of downtown. Also had a lot of Tank 7's, probably too many

I am sorry that I didn't write up cool shit for you to do, but I am also sorry that you went to the College Basketball Experience (literally attached to the arena I basically live at) and did not tell me, because now I'm gonna whoop your ass

i was in puerto rico this weekend to deal with a family issue. my cousin's family stayed at a hotel with beach access. my grandmother, who lives a couple blocks from that hotel, told us not go in the water because so far this year 7 guests of that hotel have drowned in the ocean. i have no idea what's normal amount of hotel guests to drown, but 7 seemed kind of high. i went for a swim about a quarter-mile down the beach and had no issues.
it was also extremely hot there. yes, it's puerto rico and it gets hot and humid. but even locals were saying the heat/humidity were worse than normal.

Just got back from Seattle. It only rained like twice. 0/10 Jk we had a great time. I’ll post highlights soon. Highlights, in no particular order (after the top item, of course): - Catching up with irv red at Analog Coffee!
- Seattle Art Museum - really cool/fun exhibits on Alexander Calder and west coast counterculture. Only had about an hour and half to explore, but seemed like a nice museum.
- Sushi Kashiba - Great recommendation. We went the ala carte route and everything was fantastic.
- Saw the Reign retire Megan Rapinoe's jersey, which was awesome and got a very fun game as a bonus.
- Saw Rapinoe and Sue Bird again the following night at the Storm's loss to the Mystics. Plus noted Sky season ticket holder Jewel Loyd's mom was the halftime performer!
- The food at T-Mobile park far exceeded expectations. The Mariners' offense did not.
- Fish & Chips from Proper Fish in Bainbridge was awesome, as were the ferry rides. We lucked out on the weather and got great views of the city.
- Got oysters and lunch at Elliot's on the water at the recommendation of my grandparents, who went there like 30 years ago.
- Wrapped up our trip with a day and a half out in Olympic National Park/the ocean and highly recommend. Truly gorgeous.
There's a bunch we didn't get to since we only had like 3.5 days actually in Seattle. Would love to spend more time both in the city and exploring Olympic.
