b-side was the best bar in St. Louis and they closed it thus making the city uninhabitable.

going to schlafly and telling them nana sent me If I had been a couple of years older than I am, or if Phyllis Schlafly had waited a couple more years to go to Wash U law school, which made students sit alphabetically, I would have ended sitting next to her in every class all three years.

New Orleans trip was a really good time. It was the first visit for both of us. It's a very walkable city, our hotel was close to the French Quarter so we just walked everywhere. Ate lots of great food (muffaletta from Napoleon House was delicious, as were beignets from Cafe Beignet), we had a cooking class demo one morning at the NO School of Cooking where they served us up gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding, and a biscuit with molasses. Went to a dessert bar on the last night called Drip that specializes in affogatos.
We saw Sarah Sherman one night, she was really funny. Also did a walking ghost tour, and visited the place they make and store all the Mardi Gras floats. I think we'd definitely go back, though I'm bringing more clothes next time because you sweat easily walking around a lot.
Edit: We did the WWII Museum too! The way they have the exhibits set up - Road to Tokyo, Road to Berlin - was cool. We spent like 4 hours there, and I learned a lot.

i'm headed to seattle next week for the first time in ten years. i'm looking for some recommendations, specifically sushi, pinball, and whether bremerton or bainbridge island is best for a jaunt.

We went to Bainbridge and it was fine. I think my favorite part was the ferry ride but we had lunch at a nice bar, got ice cream, and visited a winery tasting room with some cool artwork.

Bainbridge lunch was at Hitchcock Cafe, then Moda for ice cream and Fletcher Bay for the wine tasting. This was a Friday afternoon in late October and it was pretty dead. These were my favorite spots overall: - Lola for breakfast/brunch
- Coffee/hang at KEXP
- Citizen Campfire for outdoor evening drinks around firepits
- Hot Pot for coffee and donuts
- Stumbling upon Pink Door near Pike Place for lunch
- Steak dinner at Butcher's Table

Sushi Kashiba is still my #1 overall although it is def the most expensive. Shiro’s is good, in the same neighborhood, and slightly cheaper. A couple miles north is Kappo Temura and they are very good as well. If you can get into Ltd Edition Sushi it is the best omakase in the city but they only seat like 20 and are generally booked out. Jupiter Bar and Add-a-Ball are the two pinball-centric bars everyone likes; I have had a good time drinking at both but admittedly don’t play pinball.

Are there any other Seattle highlights folks would recommend? We're gonna be there in a couple of weeks and have never been out that way at all.
So far we'll be going to Reign, Storm, and Mariners games, probably 200 Stab Wounds at Neumos and a jazz show at Dimitriou's, and will check out KEXP. I've noted the restaurant recs (thanks!) and we'll be sure to check out a few of those if we can.

I also liked the Art Museum a lot too

Sushi update: For what it’s worth I went to Kashiba this weekend and they re-structured the menu so it kind of steers you into omakase and doesn’t really offer many rolls or exciting a la carte options so if you guys were wanting like a ‘normal’ casual experience just picking a few rolls I’d go Shiro’s or Kappo Temura.

I imagine we'd be interested in doing a casual spot(s) and also an omakase while we're out there. Also, if you'd be up for getting a drink or something, lmk! The dates are looking like Aug. 25-30 or so.

LOVE the Chihuly museum. Also, we really liked The Pine Box -a beer bar in an old funeral home. Interesting beer list, the pizza is good as well.

I'm heading to KCMO next month for a wedding and will be staying in downtown, around the Power and Light district if Google is to be believed. I have never been. Fiance is in said wedding and has things to do during the day Friday and Saturday, and so I'll have the mornings and afternoons free to roam solo both days, plus I figure we might go out Friday night after dinner. Would love a solid lunch/breakfast/brunch spot around there, something to maybe do nearby to kill an afternoon, and maybe a bar for Friday night if anyone has solid recs paging chvrchbarrel

Yes, Grand Blvd. will be closed the entire duration of your stay and be a Fan Fest for PBR. I don't have any details on what they're putting out there yet. There's also a PBR Bar within Power and Light that will be doing afterparties / promos / rider appearances throughout the weekend, so in general the area will be a bit busier than a usual weekend crowd. Would be more than happy to have you inside any days that you'd be interested / able to attend. I will also, however, write you up a nice list of shit to do that gets you just far enough the fuck away from all that (literal) bullshit.

Do appreciate the offer though I don't know if it'll line up with our schedule or not but I can let you know. The rodeo is a big deal here and I assume it's similarish And very much appreciate the list! no rush on it

They are certainly trying to make it a big deal here, to varying degrees of success. My personal recommendation would be to do anything other than attend it, but the offer will always be on the table if you choose.

My favorite spot is Great Lakes brewing, probably about a mile from there. There's a fantastic ice cream store called Mitchell's just a few blocks from there too
