Went through Midway yesterday afternoon - restaurants near A gates have received a bulk of the updates so far. Biggest news is that Harry Caray's will close by end of week and will be replaced by The Go Go White Sox Bar and Grill. I went through Sunday night and it looked like everything was done...the new options seem to be a total upgrade. Except there are two Home Run Pizzas now and no one needs that.

Home Run Inn is kind of a depressing choice, but good to hear the other spots are upgrades! The menu at the new White Sox bar looks leaps and bounds better than Harry Caray's.

It all looked weirdly upscale for Midway. But good on em.

Just a broad announcement to all Chicago boarders:
I will be in town all day Friday, June 16th, eating and drinking my way across the city leading up to the Nick Cave show. I know it's technically a weekday so I'm sure a lot of you have work, but I'd love to hang out with whoever is free.

That's peak Colorado cool right there. Nothing tops eating elk burgers while watching elk try to mate.

Burning Can has a band called Rubblebucket, though. So maybe it's a toss up.

Rubblebucket is actually a good band. One can only wonder how great they could be without the awfulest name.

just booked a trip to Portland on 6/8 - 6/11, headed back to Chicago for a wedding 6/15 - 6/18 Fwiw I ate v good and the things i'd very much recommend are the $45 tasting menu at toro bravo which is one of the best meals and best values ive ever had (12 courses including prime rib, a large portion of grilled calamari, 2 oz of caviar and a bunch more ish and there was only one miss), "the bronx bomber" at Lardo east (like philly cheesesteak with thick hard salami as well it was insane and also heartburn for 3 days), Nong's Khao Man Gai (get the large) and the Biz Markie breakfast sandwich at Gluttony. The Kati Roll at Bollywood Theater was good but definitely seemed like a place for group dining not solo, Fried Eggs I'm in Love was too bad of a name to appreciate the pretty good but expensive b-fast sandwich. Shalom Ya'll was good Israeli focused middle eastern food but probably not worth going out of the way for. underwhelmed by bunk sandwiches but not bad I went to a bunch of shows at night and had a bad edible experience during the day one of my three days so I didnt go to many breweries but Breakside does alot of great moderately experimental brewery only beers at their three brewpubs and i thought 10 barrel while not outstanding was pretty tasty. Definitely do the full trail thru Washington Park from the rose garden/japanese garden to Pittock Mansion 4 or so mile very moderate hike that also takes you thru the Vietnam memorial and a few great views of the city

Food recs sound amazing. I'm going for a kickball tournament, so I hopefully have time to check at least one of those places out.

Vegas next week! For the gamblers among us, what are your favorite places to gamble? Have any of you played in any small poker tournaments and what are they like? Any favorite sports books? I'm thinking about Caesar's for Game 4 of the Finals since we're going to be eating at Mesa Grill that night.

I haven't been in a few years, but the sit n go's at the MGM are pretty good. IIRC there is a $60 buy-in earlier in the day and $120 at night.
A lot of horrible players in the $60 one so it's pretty easy to advance far. It'll take a little while too so it's a good way to not spend a shitload of money at the tables.

Thanks! Those are both very helpful. Those sit-n-go's sound like fun. I'll take a look.
I'm sure I'll be playing some blackjack, too, so maybe I'll check out Excalibur.

Excalibur has a bit of rustic charm, I checked it out just because it was across the street from New York, New York (I ate lunch at Shake Shack b/c I had never had it before).

I really recommend the daily poker tournaments at the MGM. I try to play in at least one of those each time I'm there. They're not crazy expensive to buy in and the vibe was really laid back in the early day tournaments.

That really does sound awesome. Do you know many entrants do they allow per tournament?

I think the limit was 150? But I haven't been in any of them that had more than 100 people play I don't think. Top 10% get paid out no matter how many people there are though.

MGM has a pretty nice sports book, too. I bet on the White Sox and some soccer matches when I was there a couple years ago. Good way to waste some time in air conditioning.
