A lot of the lists that we have archived here are from the old board, and they aren't necessarily reflective of who all carried over from that previous iteration. We were originally building up to this list but never got there (I think we did 2000 all the way to 2008, and then stopped). I figured a project like this would help with the tensions around here, and since not all of us are able to forget our worries with a big bowl of strawberry ice cream, the purpose of our time here started over music. This thread is specifically for the rules, and the discussion around the albums. No lists will be counted from this thread. I chose this project because this is the time frame that we all basically started coming together b/c of that music.
The Rules
1. To be eligible, the release must have been between 1/1/2000 and 12/31/2009. 2. There is no limit to the format - EPs, LPs, mixtape, etc. - they all are eligible. 3. Be civil with each other, there's no reason to criticize Wretched to no end just because he put Puddle of Mudd's Come Clean as his favorite album of the decade. If a problem persists, someone's list won't be counted due to their actions. 4. Each list should be clearly numbered, designating a specific no.1 album of the decade, with Artist and album name obvious. It's a whole decade, so hopefully everyone can come up with at least 20 releases but a maximum of 100 releases. 5. Have fun. That's why we're here right?
More rules can be added if we need to, but I'd like to think this is pretty straight forward.
Deadline for Lists: 12/03/2018
Non-eligible List
Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun Sigur Ros - Ágætis byrjun
Eligible List
Sleep - Dopesmoker (2003)

Well considering MBDTF came in 2010, I'm gonna go with Kid A. But good effort.

Well I wanted to get people's opinions on this. For a whole decade, I could easily do 100-200, but in the past we've had people just do at least 20-50. I'd be open to suggestions from ya'll. I think 100 is doable, just depends on all of ya'll.

How about 20 minimum, so that we still get plenty of participation, and up to 100 will be counted. If people want to make longer lists than that, have at it.

I know it is laborious but I think everyone on this forum has it in them to make a 100+ list with an entire decade to pull from.

While I'm sure we'll get plenty of albums from The National, Radiohead, Kanye, and such, here's a few albums that I think for the final list are likely to miss the cut. But I'd like to throw them out there just in case no one has ever heard them or spent much time with them.
Cat Power - You Are Free: This is my favorite Chan record. Great guest spot from Dave Grohl on "He War." Talib Kweli - Quality: He hasn't quite matched this one, and I think it gets overshadowed by Blackstar (which is always great) Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life: My favorite SH album. "Piano Fire" is the shit. King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader: Obviously we'll get some DOOM projects on the list, but I don't hear a lot of folks referencing this (outside of teekoh I think). It's an underrated project of his, along with Viktor Vaughn. Fugazi - The Argument: Their swan song. It's so great. Screaming Females - Baby Teeth: Such a strong debut. Crystal Antlers - EP: Short-lived psych rock band, managed a BNM from P4K but couldn't follow it up successfully. The best 24 minutes they did is right here. Crystal Stilts - Alight of the Night: lo-fi pop, FFO Crocodiles. Blitzen Trapper - Furr: Bout as country as I get, this is a folk/country/pop rock album that's celebrating it's 10 year anniversary this month. They were never able to top this one, imo. The Fire Show - Saint the Fire Show: minimalist style rock, kind of like Low meets The xx's first album, but much more gothic. Califone: All My Friends Are Funeral Singers - Ever since fishkingpies left, I haven't had anyone to talk about Califone with. This albums wonderful, one of their best.

My absolutely terrible list is up. It is evident to anyone who sees that that obviously 2010 was when I got into music and I just went back and listened to artists who I liked 2010 and onwards old material.

You very clearly punted on this and I haven't even had to look at your list to tell you that. What's becoming very clear is that I could make a top 50 for every year except maybe 2000. And there's a lot of well received stuff I've never heard Edit: I suppose I should clarify that I'm saying this mostly in jest, but there's plenty of time to take some listens of stuff you've heard of but have never listened to. Plus mine is gonna have a bunch of pop/pop punk stuff from my youth that I think holds up so I'm not trying to pretend I'm better than anyone

M.I.A. - Kala Clipse - Lord willin' Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury Santigold - Santogold Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele Amy Winehouse - Back to Black Portishead - Third D'Angelo - Voodoo

How many Sade albums can we fit in the top 10? Is it possible to change the eligible albums so we can get the 2010 sade release in the top 10?

Here's some fun facts about internet blogs top albums of the decade, almost 9 years later.
- Stereogum's 1-16 are all white males, 17 is the first woman, and the only hip hop album is Outkast, which is 1 of 2 black artists in the top 50 - and they are right next to each other. - Paste is actually better, putting Outkast and M.I.A. in the top 10. College Dropout is the only Kanye album. - Entertainment Weekly has a diverse top 10 - even if I don't like all of the artists - Outkast, Kanye, Radiohead, Cat Power, JT, Dixie Chicks (?). - Uncut's top 20 is entirely white, and the only woman is Allison Krauss but that's her collab with Robert Plant. According to the article, all 5 White Stripes albums made the top 150, as well as both Raconteurs albums. WBC was their number 1. They really love Jack White. - At the Drive-In is the only non-white artist in the top 20 for NME. PJ Harvey is the highest ranking female at no. 6. - P4K is better, as this list was done right as they were pushing more towards diversity. And unlike most of the other lists, no artist is repeated in the top 20. Only list that has Deerhunter (@ #50) - Complex is very diverse, heavy more on hip hop and rap but..... Lily Allen, The Kills, Amy Winehouse, YYYs, M.I.A., and Santigold are the only females on a list of 100 albums, and they all appear once. - Rolling Stone is surprisingly diverse, still light on the women (15 out of 100). Stereogum sums up all of the lists at the end of the year on their site, and they ended up criticizing this list which I think is funny/sad.
I think we can do better than this can't we?
