1. The CubeHad never seen this one before. It was very much a "hot couch" movie but the existentialism stuff was cool. Too bad there werent a few more cool kills Also, this is great, and also also I wasn't sure what you meant by "hot couch movie" so i googled it to see if it was a commonly used term, and the results i got from "hot couch movie" are 10000% getting me fired

the Cube series, while looking like B budget films at times, is legit great and creepy af and i wouldnt be mad about a 4th one or the rumored remake if they attached the right names to the project

04. Frankenstein (1931)I can't believe I've never sat and watched this before. Dying at all of the things Young Frankenstein was directly parodying. It's also so good!

All of the James Whale flicks are tremendous. Bride and Invisible Man are A+.

05. Carrie (1976)This is not as slow as I remember. I am really loving the pacing and getting into the high-school vibe of the '70s. Which in turn makes it all the more terrifying when shit starts to get fucked up. In this movie: Board darling John Travolta slaps a woman (twice!) during a good old fashioned sexual assault.

2. Hostel: Part II (2007)This was extremely dumb and lacks a lot of the over the top shit from the first film that made it so enjoyable. I actually wrote a weird amount about this on letterboxd that I won't subject you all to here.

Netflix has a couple spooky titles coming out like Haunting of Hill House (mini series, I know) and Gareth Evans new movie, Apostle. I’m excited for Halloween, Goosebumps and Suspiria as well so all these together make a pretty decent October run. I’m also seeing Hell Fest tonight but my expectations aren’t high. Please post a review, I'm thinking about seeing it this weekend Hell Fest was alright. If you enjoy going to haunted houses (with actors, not ghosts) you’ll get a kick out of this. There were plenty of dumb moments but I used my MoviePass and I’m in my october spooky mood which is why I think I sort of enjoyed it.

hostel ii has some pacing issues and kind of a meh ending compared to the first -- but everything about the setup with the bidding and the bloodbath and all that shit was wild.

I really enjoyed the cutting the dick off stuff, as well as the slow torture/killing with the hanging upside down shit. Very cool. It got a couple of letterboxd stars because of that

Maybe next halloween hostel ii will be my favorite movie ever. I'll probably watch the third one next week

At a bare minimum I love the concepts that Roth develops.

Has anyone here seen Thundercrack? It's a film from the 70s that parodies horror films. There's a killer gorilla, an abandoned mansion, and more sex than you could possibly imagine in a non-pornographic film

Imaginative and horrifying, but the first hour gets dulled by confusing motivations, obtrusive score and whatever Sean Chapman is doing. I'd love to see this movie with anyone else playing Frank. The last half hour is perfect, tense and gruesome, until the goofy final two demons.

The last half hour is perfect, tense and gruesome, until the goofy final two demons. I just read something about Barker getting funding for the movie as he went, and shot the whole thing in order. So if you pay attention, the movie gets "better" as it goes on due to the increase in budget.

2. Before I Wake This was p cool. Flanagan seems to be one of the only directors who can do grounded performances and believable drama while still delivering campy scares. It also means his movies tend to lag a bit and this was no exception.
