Look, I get that you want people to grieve together in shared decorum, but you're chosen kind of weird hill to die on, defending a demonstrably garbage politician whom you don't even seem to know that much about ("dude was drafted"? seriously?).
edit: Also, McCain's record as a midshipman in the Naval Academy was... really something. He was constantly being disciplined for breaking the rules, and eventually graduated 894th in a class of 899.

A divided country (and broken, archaic voting system) is what allowed Trump to be elected. lmao

The bad guy won this election because there were two parties. if there was one party, the right person would win each time!

Shouldn't that indicate that maybe it's worth taking a step back and looking at who the man really was? Not to mention all the people in this very thread giving actual reasons that yes he actually sucked.

I’ve heard three interviews where a fellow senator has been asked to name a defining legislative acheivement, and each time they’ve basically replied “uh, military stuff?”
I’m pretty much in the middle of the palehose-goodson spectrum of respect deserved, but the fawning over a dude who made some really shitty decisons has been weird. I’d be good with a nice tribute but the decision to have him lie in state is very bad.

I should also point out you were in such a haste to shit on him, you didn't realize he admitted Palin was a mistake. Maybe everyone needs to take a step back.

The Celebrity Death Thread in the off-topic section of an obscure Chicago-based music forum, hours after the death of American politician John S. McCain (2018, colorized)

That's all well and good, but ever since my brother died, I kinda feel like it's bad taste to shit on someone after he or she has died.

You should tell the truth about people, be they living or dead.

It really doesn’t matter that he admitted that Palin was a mistake. There are no do-overs in governring or politics.

You can tell the truth about someone without shitting on them and arguing that others need to do the same.
I mean, what's your motive in being such a truth teller? People are not one dimensional. You might not have liked everything that he did, but not all of it was terrible. If you want to tell the truth, then acknowledge that much.

Yeah his apology doesn't take away the repercussions. The repercussions were him losing the election and the Palins getting a reality show.

I already pointed out that as recently as last year he cast the deciding vote in preventing the repeal of ACA, but you chose to spin that into a negative to fit your own narrative. You clearly don't want to hear a counter argument.

I never claimed to be a fan. I just think it's pointless and dumb to keep shitting on someone who just died. He's not going to make any more decisions that hurt you and your feelings unless you think he's going to rise from the dead and/or haunt you in your sleep.

You clearly don't want to hear a counter argument. u know he then voted for the tax reform which effectively removed the individual mandate of the ACA, causing insurers to raise their rates for people who desperately need it or did you not know this
