Yeah, we've ordered from OIB a couple of times since quarantined. Really good food, too.

Interesting that you guys like Old Irving. I went there in the fall and it wasn't even busy but the service was so slow, and the server didn't apologize or give any reason why. I also thought the couple of beers I tried were just okay, maybe I'll just need to give it another shot.

my next-door neighbor is/was a homebrewer and has slowly grown to where he's opening a full-fledged brewery in our downtown in a 100-year old building they renovated. super-stoked for him and his family - they've been dreaming of this for 10+ years and now it's a reality. we're going to a family & friends soft opening this weekend (covid capacity-reduced to 20%) and i couldn't be happier for them. the beer's pretty good too - he's won a lot of state and regional awards over the years.

These guys are doing very good work - black owned, too, so I picked up a few 4-packs. www.novelstrand.com/#/Also just found out that there's a very very cancelled brewery in Manteno, IL whose owner posted on social media that the Floyd murder was a fake and then doubled down about it after being called out. The crowd at that place is going to be a joy going forward.

We were gonna pick up Lake Effect on our way to pick up sushi but one of the beers available was a tribute to cops and the cans had cops saluting on it so we decided against it lol Update from a couple weeks ago, beer still available on their website and at their store, no mention of it or any mention in support of BLM on any social media platform. Officially a cop brewery that if you support you are a cop at this point.

They made a weak post on Tuesday and the founder agreed with a comment saying black lives matter and added some otherwise vapid comments. On par with other half-assed brand statements, but a statement.

No mention on twitter. On instagram they did a black box photo on Tuesday with no statement or hashtags and than also posted two more pictures that day advertising products so i would say doesn't even meet the bare minimum of half-assed brand statement or even a statement.

Alchemist did a limited distribution last week and my friend grabbed me a few cans. I still have a can of Focal Banger in the fridge. It's hard to keep up with these distributions, honestly.

Are there any good north side beer places that opened in the last 3 years save from the usual suspects? Half Acre/spiteful/empirical were my jams back in the day (I’ve never cared for Bergyle so not them)

Much farther north, but Eris and Old Irving Brewing by us are both very good. Dovetail is also good and they're right next to Begyle.

Both do not have taprooms but do pickup orders.

Stopped at Lucky Dorr over the weekend and had a couple beers on the patio. Only about 15 people there (and 3 dogs!) The social distancing thing was handled well. They only have 7 or 8 beers right now, but Supersonic Fuzz Gun (peach sour, Old Irving) and Cubbie Gummy (NEIPA, Noon Whistle) were tasty.
The bartender said they have been doing good business since they opened the week before. So, hopefully, they will bring in a couple more options.

Stopped at Empirical this afternoon. Nice social distancing on patio and inside. Was pleasant. Wish I liked their beer more.

We have a lot of leftover loosies from 4 and 6 packs over the last year. How long does beer last? I'm about to find out.
First off, a Lizard King from Pipeworks that @wretched gave me over a year ago. Tastes like pine! 10/10

It actually tasted pretty much the same except not as fizzy but it's also been in the beer drawer in my fridge for the whole time
