Any recommendations/favorite Chicago(land) only beers I should bring? Planning on picking up some middlebrow, something from Half Acre's wyld series, and want to grab a couple more 4/6packs. If you're looking for something unique to bring to Denver, try Hop Butcher if you can find it anywhere. Your Wish Is Granted just came out today and was brewed about two days ago. It's a double IPA. We're calling 7.5 beers DIPAs now smgdh

Brewed a saison a couple weeks back. Just transferred it to secondary last night, and it smelled incredible. Should be ready in a few more weeks. It's been hard to maintain temperature with it being so hot here recently so I was honestly expecting that the yeast wouldn't have been as effective.

Odell's Hazy Pale Ale is really good. I really dig almost everything I drink from them

This is still one of the best Chicago summer beers next to Sun Crusher.

Picked up a fancy saison from Belgium, Oktoberfest from Telluride Brewing, Racer 5 from Bear Republic, Parabola from Firestone and some Japanese whisky yesterday.
Also witnessed a bizarre shoplifting attempt in a which a dude tried to walk out of the store with a bottle of vodka, got locked into the store, proceeded to open the bottle and chug and then ripped open the door and wandered down the street.

Guess Durr made it out of the wildfire area in Colorado huh

Madison's Hopcat location is closing which is sad, if only for the fact that I will miss slamming back the sloppy fries when I am similarly sloppy.

Surly is closing their Beer Hall:
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, Surly has had to adapt, change, pivot, and change again, all in the hope of pushing the two sides of the business–the Brewery and the Beer Hall–through this unprecedented situation and the economic disaster that’s followed.
The Beer Hall had to make the most significant changes to adapt to a crumbling restaurant industry and the demands of city, state and federal COVID-19 health and safety regulations. As we complied fully with the safety measures, it became clear that beer halls are by definition gathering places and gathering places and pandemics don’t mix. Because of this, we have made the gut-wrenching decision to close the Beer Hall indefinitely on Nov. 2.

Oktoberfest season is the best.
Sierra Nevada usually puts out the best one.

I've been getting more into Sours and Goses lately. I like Avery Brewing's El Gose, and Dogfish's Sea Quench Ale Sour.

I realize Surly is cancelled now but I had furious this week for the first time since i was in the tap room and let me assure you there’s some serious union busting going on over there cause that space is awesome and you’d genuinely have to be a doofus to not like that space
Also I had a cold fusion cream ales from empirical tonight they are good

In the beforetimes when our team would play softball or whatever of our own accord we'd typically play behind Amundsen and walk to Empirical afterwords and play card games and whatnot. Looking forward to doing that next year again since most of our team is in the neighborhood now

I've been bouncing between that and Urban Renewal for my brewery patio drinks lately.

Agree about Empirical's patio. And they serve beer in glassware which, is a bigger deal to me than I would have originally thought.

Unrelated to what I just posted, I was at Simon's over the weekend (they also opened a patio in the back finally) and got to talking with the owner for a while. He said that Hopleaf is really struggling, that they have had a huge loan out on the building since the expansion, and that he had heard that the loan might be getting called soon/the lenders were getting antsy about their business revenues.
Obviously take that with a grain of salt because it's second hand, but it would suck if the pandemic killed Hopleaf. I guess their patio business isn't doing as well as I thought.

Now that Koval moved further south, I’m curious if another brewery will move in or not.

That sucks about Hopleaf. Usually, you think that owning your own space would be a good thing. Hoping they can work something out with their lender(s).
As we approach the colder weather, I think there are going to be a lot of bars and and a fair number of restaurants that go under.

Have been meaning to reserve on SV's patio but it hasn't worked out yet.

owner of the Beer Temple was on the Heavy Hops podcast last week and it's 3 hours of the most fascinating deep dives into the politics of craft beer i've ever heard
