Admittedly it's probably my least favorite on that section but that's probably because it's over my head a bit. Pretty much everyone is raving about it so I definitely think it's worth a once-over at least |

I was actually surprised at their #1 track if I'm being honest but I don't entirely hate that they give some light to mainstream music. They highlight a lot of weird shit I wouldn't listen to throughout the year, and the list features a lot of that weird stuff.

I don't have any issue with how Pitchfork operates at this point. Their live events are really the things that still have the original spirit of things, booking older stuff that was hip before hip existed (This is Not This Heat, Nenah Cherry, the whole Midwinter thing, etc.). As long as some high school kid can still read their website and discover Deerhunter or whatever for the first time (like I did!) it's all good by me.
That being said The 1975 are, at best, middle of the road pop stuff and, at worst, make me question the taste of everyone on here who actively goes to bat for them.

It's a weird list for sure. Kinda surprised that there's nothing from Car Seat Headrest, Iceage, Deafheaven, Kali Uchis, Father John Misty, Against All Logic, Anderson .Paak, Kids See Ghosts, Saba, and nothing from Daytona. It has multiple tracks from albums that didn't get a BNM (Kurt Vile, Empress Of, Young Fathers, Post Malone, etc) and definitely leans towards the second half of the year than the first.
Seems more motivated to be setting a trend than actually saying "these were our favorite songs" which is kinda what they've been moving towards the last few years.
