Pro Nirvana people need to give me some actual damn examples and ways instead of just saying it changed music forever over and over. Dude, I don't know, read any book about the music industry as the 80s turned to the 90s. I don't have time to write you a recap. Look at the list of 80s indie/alt bands that jumped to major labels. Look at the Billboard Hot 100 charts and Rock charts from throughout the 90s. Look at the even the shitty retread 90s bands that still put up massive festival crowds in the year of our lord 2018. Look even to the major impact Nevermind had on bands like Superchunk / Merge who grappled with the scene-altering decision to stay indie while being courted by major labels. All of that is traced to Nirvana. If you look into the history, especially as it pertains to labels, not a single marginally successful 80s/90s rock band's story was not in some way affected by the aftershocks of Nevermind.

The Strokes made jean jackets and looking like you hadn't showered in days cool again. i realize you jest, but i do think there's an argument that the strokes' influence on non-music is bigger than nirvana's.

The first time I heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" I was completely blown away. It was the clear signal that the 80's were finally over. (And I liked the 80's).
I suppose you could say that Is This It shut the door on the 90's, and was responsible for the re-emergence of garage rock, but really, my opinion of the album is summed up by its name.

You don't pay any attention to Nirvana, but the Strokes make you go "Found what I'm looking for." Got it.

Sry, took a wrong turn and ended up in here again on accident. Was looking for the welding thread.

I voted for nevermind, even though I never liked it while Kurt was alive.
I think the most influential album for me is Deep Purple's Machinehead [wonder if Wretched agrees]. also important to young nanafish were hey jude, George Carlin's takeoffs and putons, Highway 61 revisited, xrt album of blues artists from chicagofest on navy pier, let it bleed, damn the torpedoes, and a time to dance, the Woodstock soundtrack, and who's next, although in time, I realized who's next is crap.
