I'll give you that the home uniforms are excellent, but as a hat logo, meh. This is the worst take on the board today but in fairness I've stayed away from what i can only imagine is a tire fire of stupidity in the politics thread. |

I totally get the "Not my money" part and I agree, but we're seeing even with the Yankees and Dodgers that the luxury cap is getting treated as a hard cap. I just think if you sign Manny you're out on a lot of other guys. I would gladly trade rosters with either the Yankees or the Dodgers, FWIW. Farm too? Yanks need Blake Rutherford back. |

The irony is that they actually spent a decent amount of money acquiring players this offseason, but they are all Very Bad. Ivan Nova, Yonder Alonso, Kelvin Herrera, Alex Colome, James McCann, and Jon Jay will make over $40 million this season. That $40 mil could have just been added to the Machado offer, but instead its possible that all those guys combine for like 2 WAR this year or a 70 win team. Ugh |

I don't think there was any more to this than let's tread water in 2019 and then maybe do something, but let's flirt with adding an elite guy to make the fans think we're willing. And I disagree with you that these guys are all very bad or even regular bad. McCann is the only terrible deal in that bunch, especially with the other options available. |

Sox will move Herrera and Colome at the trade deadline if they are good or even decent and we'll basically be right back to where we were at the beginning of this offseason, so that's fun.

Lost in all of this is that the Padres (the Padres!) are going to be really, really good in a few years. Don't they have like 10 of the top 100 prospects in baseball? Machado and Hosmer and those guys are a good core
