Gomez was right about the amount of the Sox offer to Machado. What was he wrong about? First he said that it was down to the Phillies and White Sox, then he said his source said that Machado was signing with Chicago. He definitely has some inside info on some things but he's definitely not that reputable

I'm also in the "that's not a done deal" camp. Passan and Rosenthal seem to be the two that have the best sources, I'll believe it when one of them tweets it.

It's worth noting that Frank Castillo (who?) is reporting this, Gomez was just passing along the info.

Not to say it's inaccurate, but Jon Heyman is a piece of shit.

Strasburg is going back to the Nats for a massive seven year 235 million dollar deal. Wow, can't imagine what the Yankees are going to have to pay Cole.

Annnnd the Sox are new home for Avi Garcia-ish Nomar Mazara. I guess we're giving up Steele Walker. Seems steep!

I don't love that move.

Steele Walker is almost certainly a 4th/5th outfielder type, and the Sox are awash with those. Might as well take a low-risk chance that Mazara puts together a Carlos Quentin-style step forward.
I don't think this move will be that impactful regardless and I hope they still get another bat.

Players have gotta be happy with how this off-season has been going. A lotta money being thrown around.

I never liked Hawk (for semi-obvious reasons) but his call of DeWayne Wise is an all-timer and I'm glad he's getting his due

Rangers are on the verge of trading for Kluber. Indians are about to enter a rebuild and the White Sox are still half assing it. If they don't sign one of the top 3 FA starters on the market then I will still follow this team and just complain because that's business as usual.

Can't believe Kluber doesn't even make 20 a year.

Can't believe Kluber doesn't even make 20 a year. He signed that contract young, and it has multiple option years that are well before market value. He's never made it to free agency.

The return for Kluber is terrible.

Have to assume that was the best they could get though, no? Had they traded him last off-season they probably could have gotten a haul.

I think they would have managed a better return at the trade deadline - more teams competing for a top tier starting pitcher, particularly if he came back well from injury.
Also it was probably never reasonable that MadBum would leave the NL considering how good he is batting. Fingers crossed for Keuchel or Ryu.

I'm fully expecting them to bring in a 3rd or 4th tier SP and feed us the "well, we tried" line again. Get ready for another year of Ivan Nova.

Is Alex Wood still out there? He seems like the type of guy the Sox would go after.

He's out there. Coming off his worst professional season he fits the 3rd or 4th tier starter bill.

Spent the weekend visiting friends in Detroit and just wanna say that, tho this Kluber return kinda stinks, there is a fairly likely chance that he’s never the same pitcher again. Dude turns 34 in April, has lost ~4mph off his fastball, looked terrible in limited time last year before sustaining a fluke injury that knocked him out for the year. That said, it really is shocking we couldn’t get more for him, given his history. I’m gonna miss watching Klubot starts sooo goddamn much - the dude was a huge part of our decade, and I’ll never forget how he and Miller carried our entire pitching staff throughout the 2016 postseason.
Now... the team “saved” 17.5 million here. If we reinvest that money (lmaooo) on bolstering the team, then I’m all aboard the “this trade was smart” bandwagon. But if they stand pat and make marginal upgrades while fielding a sub-100 million payroll, then this is a load of shit.

The good news is that you guys will get an absolute haul for Lindor and then get an absolute haul again in eight years when you trade those guys
