it's kind of remarkable how bad food is at all-inclusive resorts. it's like ai generated.
our first meal at the slop house buffet actively angered me.

the last all-inclusive i went to was in cancun and the only "slop house buffet" i recall was all the hot ass at the pool every day, the meals were fine (small portions tho) and there was a variety of restaurants

I attended this event yesterday and I think it's going to be a must-do in the future. Had some great bites especially from the Chicago chefs - the tuna crudo from Rose Mary was our overall winner but everyone in our group also liked the cold noodle salad with short rib from Girl and the Goat and the Korean pulled pork sliders from Cindy's. Lula had a nice little bite with a white sweet potato cake with creme fraiche, fresh dill and trout roe. There was a lovely little passionfruit/strawberry parfait thing from Dairyland and a very decadent foie gras mousse/sable cookie sandwich from Bavette, and of course Bartolotta's showed out with a seared scallop with black truffle and Parmigiano. Duds were a butternut squash dolma from Galit, a chestnut veloute from the Immigrant Room, and a whipped salt cod dumpling from Amalinda. But overall a great event, well run (though pretty crowded and hot) and we all left stuffed.

Immigrant Room (assuming the one at The American Club in Kohler) is never as good as I want it to be.

I was thinking about taking the family to Bad Apple on Wednesday night since it's pretty close to where we're staying. I recall seeing folks talk about it previously but not anything recent, so just wanted to see if the quality had dropped off or if there were any other family-friendly recs for food in that area.

We go somewhat frequently since we're so close. While I think there's been a real dip in quality (and popularity) since its pre-pandemic heyday, it's still one of those places where everything on the menu is at least a B- and there is always a good beer list. I probably would never go if it wasn't a neighborhood spot, but it's definitely still solid.

Haven't been to Bad Apple in a while, but my family recs around there would be Spacca Napoli or the Warbler. Spacca Napoli is pretty consistently rated as some of the best pizza in the city (non-deep dish edition)

Bad Apple is good, not great, but would be a solid choice to go to with your kids.
To me, Spacca Napoli is not as little kid friendly.

Warbler is probably a good call. Can likely make reservation and I believe they have a very inexpensive set menu when eating at little kid hours as well as a passable drink program. Bad Apple very mid.
Anywhere you take a kid that serves food within 1.5 miles from bad apple gonna be very kid friendly in general tho

Damn glad I asked about Bad Apple. Always looked like a good choice when I was visiting Half Acre before Hop Butcher took over the spot.
Also just noticed that Little Goat has a location on Southport, so that might be a good option. Warbler looks good, too.

That new little goat is also very mid. Just a bizarre sweet forward menu. And last time I went I spent $20 on cold soup.
I’ve never eaten there but supposedly the chicken fingers and burgers are great at Bitter Pops and they (at least used to) have a very good craft beer program.
