Supper club but not Dells-adjacent, I went to the Hob Nob in Racine a few weeks ago. V old school and pretty spot right on the lake but holy hell I was sick afterward. I don't think I'm cut out for supper club food.

Surprisingly Cimaroli's only adds about 8 total mins to the trip vs. suzy's or buckhorn (the only different is its on teh back end of the drive) so I think it will probably literally just come down to when we decide to leave

Tried a Korean chicken place near us in Schaumburg since I had the day off today. Man they do not kid around when they call something "spicy" on their menu

Cimaroli's is supposed to be much more affordable, $4 Old Fashioneds Oh Btw we ended up going here and it was great. Were there for like 3 hours and I think between our dinner bill (steak w/ additions, fish fry, desert) and an hour at the bar (cocktails and apps) it was like $120 total. The drinks were fantastic, and the food was extremely solid (liked the broiled fish much more than the fried. Love that when I asked for hot sauce they brought me a soup bowl of buffalo sauce). Saw a knock off MAGA hat and we were like "damn what a loser doesn't even have a real thing" but than we saw it was signed by the man himself and had to give it respect.

Also finally went to Obelix and that has to be in conversation for the best restaurant in Chicago, easy. At a price point that you can't just "go back" but cant wait for the opportunity to.
Tete de Couchon served with scallion pancakes, spicy granola and kimchi to make little mushu pancakes with? come on now

For a hyper specific request, does anyone know of any good dinner-ish food near the AMC South Barrington/NOW Arena? I know theres good stuff in Schaumburg but would love to not have to move the car too many times

Pretty good food options and it's a brewery too There's an outdoor mall a few miles away on Higgins that has a few higher priced places like Ruth's Chris, but they have a few other good places like Mago for Mexican or Georgios for some decent pizza

The menu is straight up the middle but the vibe is nice, especially if it’s cold out and you get a table near-ish the fireplace. It’s basically next door to NOW arena. There’s also a Cooper’s Hawk nearby which all the suburban moms on my team swoon over. It’s pretty good for what it is.

went to monteverde last night for my partner's birthday.
the lyft to get there smelled terrible and made me nauseous. that feeling was still subsiding during the first course. but it was gone by the time we got the gnocchetti and žlikrofi headliners. both were tremendous.
when we arrived, the table to our left was wrapping up and the one to the right was open. a couple was quickly seated to our right. eventually two new women sat on our left. one of those women knew the couple to our right and chatted with them briefly. then the wine director came over to chat with the couple on the right. ten minutes later the owner came out to chat with them. from what i overheard, the guy to our right is a lawyer who's done work for monteverde. the owner was excited to tell him about future investments and opportunities that they're working on.

After this post I looked at reservations and was actually able to get one for the first time ever. Very excited to be going to Monteverde in a month.

I meant to mention when the earlier conversation happened, and I don't know if it's on the menu right now but the stuffed cabbage is such a cozy dish. It's not flashy but damn it's good.

when i just went last weekend, we got:
- mozzarella shooters - artichoke & sunchoke crostino - burrata e ham (added the prosciutto butter) - cacio whey pepe - hand cut tagliatelle - citrus dark chocolate sorbet
everything was great. prolly the best meal we had all year. tagliatelle and the burrata took the W for best dish

My mom wanted to go to White Chocolate Grill on Tuesday night. Very below average. Service was terrible - could barely understand the waiter racing through the menu (useless) and the specials. They also rushed out the appetizer right after we ordered drinks and rushed out the entrees shortly after the appetizer. Noisy as hell throughout the entire joint, too. Never going back.
Our team holiday dinner on Wednesday night was at Cooper’s Hawk which was very mid but a better experience than Tuesday night. Almost certainly going back (the suburban moms love it).
