Agreed the new Little Goat is disappointing. They shrunk the menu, made everything ala carte, and raised prices significantly.
I'll second Frasca & Crosby's as solid options for dining with kiddos.

I was a fan of the new punch house menu. Ordered 3 of grilled oysters Tuna Tostada Fish taco
I thought the tuna tostada was delicious but $16 was a lot. Still, buy cheap get cheap I guess.
There are a few chingon standards on the menu (Duck Carnitas, Cochinita Pibil Nachos) and I think the only veg thing is a torta ahogada with maitake which sounds good tbh.

The chef was the culinary teacher at our school for years. Great dude and it's awesome to see how successful he's been.

tonight we went to härg. the molasses bread was divine. the buratta starter with pesto was excellent. we selected perch and salmon as mains. both were nice portions with good flavors, but not highlights.
last night we went to pegasus and had a pleasant meal. the menu online annoyingly didn't really match the menus we were given. but it turned out fine. my partner loved the duck and my celeriac was saved by some pickled mushrooms. two tables away, two bodyguards watched over a party. our table was pretty curious, so my partner asked the server. "that's the president of estonia."
two nights ago we went to rataskaevu 16. i had a great meal there in 2014. this one was probably better. all of our mains were very good - a spinach orzotto, beef tenderloin, and braised elk roast. the caramelized apple and bread pudding desserts were solid closers. and it was the best atmosphere of any restaurant on this current trip. very recommended.

I have the week off between jobs and am still too sick to do anything actually fun so can anyone help me brainstorm some places that are generally hard to get into/go to for lunch that are also very good and maybe slightly more special occasion feeling? The only two qualifications are I can't drink still and also I'd like to get out of Logan Square if possible otherwise down for basically anything but most interesting places are only open for dinner.
on the list at the moment: Johns food and wine pompette (dinner Is banging, gotta try lunch) omercitos (Logan square obvi but just far enough from me that I haven't made it over)

Vegas rundown:
Thursday pre show: ORD McDonalds. Never misses but the service is not as good as a normal McDs
MidShow: Twizzlers. One of the greats
Post show:double double animal style. Am I part of the In N Out jizz fest? No, but credit where it's due, this is a solid fast food burger that doesn't layer on an egregious Vegas Strip Upcharge.
Friday am: spinach and feta omelette from Peppermill with a bloody Mary. This omelette is ten eggs. Psychotic. Still, eggs, salty cheese, and spinach is a great recovery meal.
Friday dinner: got into Carbone somehow. The veal Parm is $91. That's wild. Still everything was very very good. Best bite probably the beef carpaccio.
Mid show: Twizzlers.
Saturday am: Mexican brunch at Sol in the Caesars shops. Idk, this was fine.
Saturday dinner: Best friend. This is my favorite restaurant on the strip. Tasting menu is so much good and it's all very tasty. I'll probably not do the tasting menu next time
Mid show: Twizzlers
cya next year Vegas

I went to Chicago ramen yesterday and honestly it was perfect. Really opened up my pores.
My recommendation is get three bowls. I thought the tsukemen was good, not incredible. Chicago Ramen still the Greatest imo. Definitely want the miso, probably a brothless, and then one of whatever else you're feeling. As has been mentioned before, be prepared for a fishy broth if you get the shio. I like it but ymmv
