Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it. However, my race will be around the Sleeping Bear Dunes area. I did run Chicago in 2014. It was a very cool experience. I ran some with the soreness, hoping it was a fluke and that I could push through it. It came back all angry, so I decided not to chance it again. Have you been up to that area before? I'm camping there next month and would love some recs. Rent a sailboat on Big Glen Lake.

I haven't been up that way since I was a kid and don't remember much but the dunes. There are a bunch of wineries and winery tours around there. I'm semi-familiar with the Traverse City area ~30min nearby if you are passing through there. I know someone up there and can hit them up for some info, if you like.

That'd be great if you don't mind.

I put their reply in the travel thread. I tagged you in the post, but I don't know if that notifies you or not. Enjoy!

Skipped my trainer for the first time in a long while this week. No reason really except that I'm still a little tired from Pitchfork. I feel like I'm kind of falling off the wagon and I hate it. Gotta find something to get me more motivated.

Mostly diet. I do about an hour of cardio, sometimes two, and I try to go hiking on the weekend. I mean, the caveat here is that I have zero extra muscle.

Set my PR for a mile, 7:39, pretty proud of that.
Came over just 4 seconds (16:59 vs 17:03) for my two mule but still happy with those numbers since a month ago it was 20:19.

I just ran today for the first time since I strained my calf. I was told to rest it for a month or so, and to ease back into running. Felt good, and I don't think there are any problems. Pretty sure my race in October is doomed, but luckily I can defer my registration to next year.

That's what I'm training for right now, I normally do 6-7 half marathons per year but have never done the full before. Did a 16 mile run on Monday which pretty much killed me ... made me realize how much slower you need to set off on these long runs compared to half marathon pace.

Nope. I was planning on doing one by the Sleeping Bear Dunes. I also had a half planned for this weekend, but that's out of the question. I hear you. I've trained for both distances (I ran 6 half marathons last year), and it's a different beast.
Good luck on your training. The Chicago race is a blast.

so ive made better decisions since the beginning of the summer but haven't held myself to anything strict. today I kind of came up with a weight loss plan. And I'm going to get a gym membership today as well as go by the store and buy a couple things including healthier snacks and some stuff for the gym. I've been keeping up with the running too but I've slipped some, I'm gonna try to stick to a more strict regimen with that. Gym membership will help for the days when the weather is bad or its too hot or if I'm out of town (getting a nationwide membership because my job travels a lot)
Hopefully it all helps a lot. even with the gym membership my goal right now is pure weight loss, I think I'm gonna go for lighter weights but more reps, anyone that knows things about this stuff think that's a good idea? My plan is to transition to more strength gaining/bulking/whatever people call it once I get to a more healthy weight (going up in weight and down in reps)
also started finally counting calories which I should have been doing for a while. Gonna aim for no more than 1500 every day. I've held to that the past two days and I'm on track for it today.

Good for you!
Rather than just counting calories, focus on lean proteins, vegetables, and, to a lesser extent, fruit. 1500 calories will be tough sometimes, but making good choices (even if you eat more calories) will keep your weight loss on track. Also, eat some sort of protein after you run - it is good for your recovery afterwards.
My weight loss has stalled out at 55 lbs. Really need to get more serious, but beer tastes so damn good.....

Yeah I've been trying to eat a decent bit of protein. I've been eating a lot of grilled chicken lately, and trying to throw in veggies when I can. Also trying to add more grilled fish to my diet. I also went to the store last night and got a couple different healthyish snacks, most of them pretty protein filled.
I really love beer too. It's hard to resist sometimes if I'm somewhere and see some special beer I've wanted to try. Gonna try my best though to limit it, which is good for me for more than just health reasons

The name of the sub is obviously less calories than you're going for, but check out /r/1200isplenty on Reddit for good ideas on lo cal stuff that is still filling and tasty.

i'm terrified to ever start counting calories because i am a pig and i like it.
(really tho that seems to be one of the easiest and fastest ways to drop weight fast and keep it off since you learn to curb your appetite for future meals)

I started and it was kinda bad. With meals I make at home I'm hovering at around 300 per meal and only eating two meals a day. Not good. Fortunately I go out enough for special occasions with friends where I'm a little bit more liberal with my eating habits so it balances out I'd like to think?
Basically my rule for the past month has been no more drinking or eating unhealthy alone, only with people.
Down 10 pounds since P4K so ayyy.

I started watching sugar more than calories. I think that's arguably a larger impact on the average person's diet.

Simple, easy trick: Eat on smaller plates. Your brain interprets a full small plate as more food than a spaced out large plate.

We learned that basically the worst thing you can do is eat cereal first thing in the morning. I cut out soda a long time ago, but only recently cut out juice as well. It's sad how addicted you can get to a certain amount of sugar per day.

I'm going for 1500 right now both because I'm trying to ease myself into this and because I figured if I'm upping my exercise a lot then I shouldn't dramatically lower my diet too much (I'm not sure if this is a thing or not), but if I'm able to keep myself a good bit under 1500 that'd be a positive thing

It's sad how addicted you can get to a certain amount of sugar per day. I cut out soda a while ago, I still do a diet soda every once in a while when I get a craving but I'm trying to cut it out completely. I'm trying to find some healthy drinks that aren't water (I do drink a ton of water though), I just bought some green tea packets hopefully that is good for it.
and for a while I didn't realize how bad a lot of juice was, luckily I never drank it much but I've tried to cut that out completely too.
breakfast is tougher. I for a while was getting breakfast tacos at the kitchen we have onsite but that's not super healthy. I'm trying to just do oatmeal or a small snack now

I do high protein (Siggi's) plus a piece of fruit for quick carbs to fuel my ride to work. I need to get back on the horse tho, have gained back a bit of the 35# I lost last year. Sheetcaking and stress of job change really got to me. I'm trying to cut out refined sugar now but that's hard.
