These Bowflex dumbbells that I've seen everywhere for years are on sale for $180 which seems crazy cheap. Does anyone have them/can anyone give me some reason not to buy these? I've been looking to get a full set of dumbbells for my place but this seems like too much of a cost savings overall to pass up.

Is space an issue where you live, cpf?

Space isn't an issue insofar as these would probably take up a comparable amount of floor space as a vertical dumbbell rack. I'd just rather pay $180 than the $400+ it would take to get a full set of dumbbells in the weights I want.

was this supposed to notify me or something? cause it didn't. anyway that's not a bad deal for bowflex stuff and if you're worried about space, it's even better. if they have the weights you want then i dont see why not do that instead of an expensive set of 10-20 dumbbells. idk what you do if you want to go past the max weight tho except do more and more reps

I would not need to be going over 52lbs at home, I'll save that shit for the gym where people can save me when I die from trying to do so.
Anyway, they sold out at that price while I was mulling it over so *shrug*.

Ran the Soldier Field 10 Mile this morning. Yay me! We have a wedding at the Art Institute Modern Wing at 6 PM. I may be dead by 10 PM.

I biked 30 miles yesterday, which isn't a big deal except I haven't done any long rides this year. Felt good.

I've been in a shitty cycle of losing/gaining weight so I'm really trying to get in shape. Running a company 5K in Milwaukee at the end of July and I'm trying to train for it. Is couch to 5K actually good? Has anyone tried it before?

Is couch to 5K actually good? Has anyone tried it before? Yeah, it's super easy to use. I hate running so I go back to it every time I have to do a 5k.

I liked using it, too, and I hate running. I've never done a 5k, but I did just do that Chase Corporate Challenge thing last week. That was alright.

Bolder Boulder was a blast again. My sister, her husband and a friend "ran" it with me. Our first mile was 18 minutes because we waited in line for a trampoline and made ourselves beermosas with some college students. I also set the course record for the day doing a keg stand at mile 3.

I started running on Sunday for the first time in way too long. I have ran every subsequent day since. Today I tried to go again and made it barely far at all before determining I'm way too sore to run for a fifth day straight. This is when I realized rest days are probably important when you are first starting
I also just started tracking like time and distance yesterday which I should have been doing from the start but oh well

Rest days are important regardless. That's how injuries happen.

Just do the CS5k so your rest days are built in.

Just do the CS5k so your rest days are built in. Yeah I actually downloaded an app for that last night. Going to give it a try.
Contemplating whether I should give myself one more rest day today before starting it though, since I sort of tried to run yesterday so it wasn't a full rest day

I've been running regularly for the past 4-5 years. I've never had any serious problems until now...I think I strained my calf. It's not debilitating, but definitely something I can't ignore. I don't want to piss it off even more so I'm resting it for a few weeks. I'll probably have it checked out, just in case. I have a marathon in October, so I hope this doesn't severely dash those plans. Anyone else have any experience with mid-training injuries?

Yes...but I'm an asshole and always insisted on just training through whatever bothered me. In the end, I was lucky and never really had anything debilitating until the arthritis caught up with me. So...no advice.
However, if your October marathon is Chicago, hit me on PM and I can do some things to make your weekend a little more enjoyable.

Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it. However, my race will be around the Sleeping Bear Dunes area. I did run Chicago in 2014. It was a very cool experience.
I ran some with the soreness, hoping it was a fluke and that I could push through it. It came back all angry, so I decided not to chance it again.

How'd ya do it? Good job, that's a lot. A rigid routine of 90+ minute walks along the river every day, taking in less than 1000 calories per day save for the days I was out with family or friends or something (but most of those days I walked even more than that so it burnt off a little), and sleeping better although that's been slipping a bit. Honestly, I'm surprised how fast it's happened but I'm not complaining. Got more to go to get me where I want to be. Finally shaving off like 50 pounds I put on during a really bad period of my life. It's been some years coming, it's kinda like I'm leaving that era of my life behind in the process.

Not to diminish your accomplishment or commitment to being healthy, but you mentioning aiming for less than 1000 calories a day seems a little scary to me. Just make sure you're still taking care of yourself. I know guidelines are guidelines, but isn't 1-2lbs a week is the 'safe' rate to lose weight at?

I'm camping there next month and would love some recs.

I'm taking care of myself enough, but fuck, I just want to lose weight as quickly as possible rn. I've been eating a bit more as of late since I felt like I needed it, so I'm not looking to kill myself over it, but I want to see steady and fairly quick progress to keep myself motivated. 1-2 pounds a week is way too slow for me.
