2nd day in a row I’ve done about 20-25 minutes of at home working out. There’s a couple of apps with 30 day challenges I’m taking on. Nothing serious but it feels good to be doing something like that again

Starting week 3 and I'm down 6 lbs from eating better (less take out and cafeteria food), getting in at least 8K steps a day, and calorie counting. Having the kid home also helps to not just sit in front of the TV at night.

I had to call my endocrinologist's office yesterday because my blood sugar has been super low lately. As I suspected, the last dosage of insulin I've been taking--one at night--is now too much. No more insulin for me at all anymore!
Also, yesterday marked three weeks of me not smoking any cigarettes.
Look at me being all healthy and shit.

People, I'm so happy. My endocrinologist's office followed up with me today to see how I've been doing since I've been off insulin entirely. They were thinking of putting me on a one-a-day pill to help regulate my blood sugar, but my blood sugar has been so stable and well managed that they don't even think I need that at this point. The doctor literally said "That's not even close to diabetic" when we were talking about my numbers.
I FUCKING DID THAT.
Oh, and one month today of not smoking. Coronavirus has been a strong deterrent!

Just received an email from the Chicago Marathon that they are offering participants the opportunity to cancel with everything that is going on, which is great, but then you continue reading:
-Bank of America Chicago Marathon registration fees and ancillary purchases are nonrefundable. -Your 2020 registration fee and ancillary purchases will not be refunded. -Your 2020 registration fee and ancillary purchases will not be applied toward your 2021 application.
lol fuck that. I'll just wait this out I guess.

Wow. That sucks.
A group of 6 of us volunteered last year at a water station. We all agreed that we would not volunteer this year. I think they are going to have a volunteer issue this year for sure.

I'll let the initial noise die down a bit before I give them a call and poke around a little bit, but I should be able to get more background for you on this from the inside. Traditionally, if you are injured (or want out for any reasonable excuse) and want to port your entry over to next year, they will guarantee your ability to bypass the lottery. Essentially, your next year's entry becomes guaranteed, but you do not get any credit for monies paid for the current year's event. It looks to me like they're simply extending that rule and saying "If running this event makes you concerned for your health due to the virus, we'll extend our normal courtesies to you for that reason (in addition to all others)." If they run the race, I think that's a reasonable response (assuming of course that government agrees it's a good idea to run the race). If they don't run the race, then I'd expect you to get cash back (or carried over) just like you would if an airline cancels your flight.

Most volunteers come in groups and one of the biggest sources of volunteer pool candidates are schools that need to get their kids community service credit for college applications. I've had to sign hundreds of those forms in my time working for the event on race weekends. The upside is that the kids are a captive audience and are stuck on-site. The downside is that most of them don't want to be there and are shitty volunteers. I think they'll still be able to pull this type of volunteer. The runner or Chicagoan that wants to "give back" to the sport or to guests to our city may be harder to coax out on race day. If you are interested in a more tangible volunteer role, with real interaction with the runners (pre-race) and spectators (waiting for their runners to finish), let me know and I can point you in a better direction. Naturally, if you want to sit out 2020 the offer stands in the future. Not surprisingly, the weather tends to be the biggest determinant of how many volunteers show up for the event. Most leads are prepared enough that they can do the job with 1 person or 100 showing up to staff their team.

If they don't run the race, then I'd expect you to get cash back (or carried over) just like you would if an airline cancels your flight. I'd be fine with them coming out and saying, "if you want to switch to next year, we will credit you for 2021 registration and you will have a guaranteed slot" rather than merely extending the existing policy as if it's some special consideration. I'm not demanding a refund, I'm just not thrilled that they're pretending me having to pay twice is somehow a courtesy. Fun story: I'm not even eligible to switch my registration because I had to cancel last year. So basically they're just telling me I'm SOL unless the race gets outright cancelled. Still genuinely curious what their plan is for social distancing since that will definitely be in place to some degree in October.

And their plan better not be "participate in a virtual race."

Time to celebrate with a cheesesteak and cheese fries.

Nice job, uv! After not really doing anything to keep up with my weight loss regimen other than attending virtual WW workshops since mid-March, I finally stepped on the scale. Up about 3.5 lbs, which is really not bad. It is inspiring me to actually try through May - hoping to end the stay at home with a net loss.

People, I woke up this morning a little freaked out. All week long it's been dawning on me exactly what I've done. I've been getting to see how a lot of these new clothes fit. My body is so different now.
When we first went into quarantine, I had lost around 40 pounds and was starting to think that I needed to start doing a little more because I was feeling a little soft and loose. Push-ups three times a week quickly became every day which eventually became multiple sets of push-ups, planks, and squats every day.
And then I woke up this morning, and I officially hit 71 pounds lost. One more until my final goal. My BMI is still safely in the overweight range and I have no doubt that I could lose another 20 and get into the "normal" range, but I think if I lose nearly 100 pounds people might start crying when they see me. I've already freaked out enough people lately.
I just feel so crazy and insane over what has happened because I've learned to budget so well and eat so healthy that I've managed to be able to end my days lately by eating banana splits and peanut butter and banana sandwiches and drinking cider and I still lose weight the next day. And now I'm stopping because I want to and I know it's not gonna come back. I'm too in control, and I'm not letting go.
My sister put together this comparison the other day and it really has been driving the point home. I'm going to post it for a bit to prove that I'm not bullshitting you about having lost a metric fuckton of weight.
Honestly, I'm fucking delirious. (That might also be the PERFECTLY LEGAL intoxication I'm experiencing right now.)
I dunno. I guess I'm just happy for myself. I feel so awesome.

And yes, I did go to Hard Rock while in Florence. I always liked those cheesy tourist tees while growing up, but I never had one. I decided I wanted one with the name of a city as cool as Florence on it.
Now, of course, it's way too fucking big to do anything with but admire.

Boston Marathon has been officially cancelled after initially being rescheduled for September. I'd expect we'll hear about NYC and Chicago being cancelled soon, too.

I get the impression there may have been some job loss/turnover in the race management company in Chicago as I'm not getting responses from the usual suspects. Wish I could help, but I'm several times removed from the decision makers.

I figure if I get myself into some habits I can either keep doing it post-work or I can become the morning person I was at 16 with my caddie job. The fact that I'm ok with both of those things makes me wonder who I am as a person. Let's hear it for self-discovery!

Chicago Marathon cancelled.
Registered participants can receive a refund for their race entry or defer their place and entry fee to a Chicago Marathon in 2021, 2022 or 2023. Registered runners for the International Chicago 5K will have the same options.

Kind of annoyed they waited until after training for the race had already started, but glad they finally pulled the trigger. Guess I'm shooting for 2022 at this point. My goal is NYC Marathon next fall, but that's a tough lottery.

My guess is that there is some sort of 90 day clause with their insurance. At least you have the option of how long to defer.

The fact that I'm ok with both of those things makes me wonder who I am as a person. Let's hear it for self-discovery! For me, the trick to developing solid habits is to start really slowly and really easily with something that you can do each and every day. That worked for me because working out once is easy; the only difficult thing was making sure I did it every single day. Once I had no problem with the daily habit of doing one easy thing to work out, then I slowly ramped things up. It's worked out pretty well. In December, I walked 150 miles. Since March, I've averaged 344 miles each month.
