Not getting my hopes up, but I've been seeing rumblings that the Bulls may let LaVine walk if he gets a big enough offer from another team (which I don't see happening, but there are way too many inept teams in the NBA to count that idea out). I'm not sure who the Bulls could realistically land as a free agent, but not having LaVine would free up room for two max contracts.
Also if they do let LaVine walk wtf was that trade.

I was listening to the Zach Lowe podcast yesterday, and he and Kevin Pelton were talking about how the Bulls probably wouldn't even offer LaVine 4/60. They also mentioned that he could still take the qualifying offer, but it was a really low amount so super risky (I think 4 mil?).
But yeah I'd love to see Bulls fans spin LaVine leaving as a positive even though it would be the same segment of the fanbase that was thrilled about his acquisition.

I still like the guy but if he's going to handcuff your team cap wise, he'll unfortunately have to go and be that team's cap handcuff.
Even without him, you got Lauri and Dunn. Meanwhile, Jimmy's continuing his excellence at bringing teams to the 8 seed.

They won 47 games last year after winning 31 and 29 the previous two years. If LaVine sucks or leaves, Lauri and Dunn is like 40 cents on the dollar in a Butler trade.

Because I was bored (nothing to do with the top 15 comment outside of it made me think!):
1 LeBron James 2 Kevin Durant 3 James Harden 4 Anthony Davis 5 Steph Curry 6 Russell Westbrook 7 Giannis Antetokounmpo 8 Kawhi Leonard 9 Joel Embiid 10 Damian Lillard 11 Karl-Anthony Towns 12 Chris Paul 13 Nikola Jokic 14 Kyrie Irving 15 Kristaps Porzingis 16 Jimmy Butler 17 DeMarcus Cousins 18 John Wall 19 Andre Drummond 20 Kemba Walker
But to the point, I really want to see Lauri play more than one year before calling the trade in Minnesota's favor because:
a) He could end up being better than Jimmy or at least help the team enough that him, coupled with tanking enough to get Carter, could benefit the Bulls far more than Butler sticking around b) We don't even know if LaVine's coming back or not. Hard to call a trade before that has even happened. c) if Jimmy doesn't re-sign with the Timberwolves (this is the last year before player option kicks in), how will the trade look over a three year period post the trade?
There's just too many moving pieces to have an opinion one way or another, EVEN IF LaVine doesn't return.

Pretty sure they’re going to get Lavine for something around $10 mil per year, which still seems like a good deal given his considerable upside. They’d still have plenty of space for a max guy in 2019 under that scenario.

They’d still have plenty of space for a max guy in 2019 under that scenario. would have no issue with a conservative deal and am glad the league is undervaluing him so much (edit: undervaluing isnt the right word, devaluing maybe?) Bulls have made basically exclusively horrible deals over the past 15 years or whatever but i think the Butler one was fine.

But I guess if the Lakers really would trade both guys, that probably means they think it's a lock that they can get LeBron/Kawhi/Paul George

i'd say yes if kawhi is definitely healthy. can't hesitate to give up two iffy (if admittedly high-upside) prospects for an mvp-level star in his prime.
probably no way to guarantee that though

I said “yes,” but mostly because it’s starting to sound like LeBron will only go there if they have already secured a second star.

K.C Johnson with some good Zach LaVine info:- "The Bulls definitely want to sign LaVine, 23, to a long-term deal. But it’s believed their preferred annual salary is in the $14 million-to-$16 million range." - "If [the Kings] choose to go the LaVine route, that would mean a four-year offer worth roughly $80 million. The Bulls, who are expected to offer LaVine a multiyear deal at an annual salary lower than he is seeking, would almost certainly match that." - "But the Kings could make additional moves to clear more cap space and come closer to the max deal of four years and roughly $108 million that a rival team can offer LaVine. Such an offer could give the Bulls pause."

Oh god they're going to fuck this up even with the Kings trying to save their asses.

Also buried in that piece was the Bulls offering Portis a multiyear extension because anytime you can lock in a 4th big before restricted free agency, you gotta do it.
This team will be paying $50 mil a year for LaVine, Portis, and Felicio.

Any time the Kings want someone, it means you should walk away from the negotiating table.

Leave it to the Kings to fuck this whole thing up even though they’re already loaded with young shooting guards in Hield and Bogdan, both of whom they’ve invested a lot of resources in.

I'm genuinely happy for Thunder fans, but I don't understand that decision from Paul George's perspective. Maybe it's just as simple as him being best buds with Russ, but just I don't see the path for them to get any better over the next 3 years. OKC fans of course will say "but Roberson," but I feel like they're forgetting he's still recovering from the worst knee injury an athlete can suffer and just two years ago was getting benched in the playoffs because he can't shoot free throws.

Bulls apparently interested in Jabari Parker. Love the guy but I just don't understand that fit at all, unless they were planning on trading Portis for a wing.
