It started out promising with some stuff that's been largely ignored (hey some love for Speedy Ortiz). But then it becomes the standard list.

Maybe just me but I'm a little perplexed that all these publications seem to view Nights as the consensus pick from Blonde. My personal favorite is still Self Control but I think White Ferrari, Nikes, and Ivy all would be reasonable picks for a list like this.

Self Control is my favorite but the beat switch in Nights is phenomenal and super memorable I think.

Just want to add that even though The Outsiders has the most compelling narrative of any EC album I am not sure it's his best this decade. But I think of all the big tent artists this decade he deserves to be discussed as someone who's really put together one of the best bodies of work on an album by album basis.

Reading these lists is so exhausting for some reason. There's really no surprises at all. Kinda makes me not even want to bother making one anymore.
Edit: and if there are surprises, they're more like "wtf?" instead of "nice." Like House of Sugar in Vice's list.

Edit: and if there are surprises, they're more like "wtf?" instead of "nice." Like House of Sugar in Vice's list. Completely agree. I'll prolly still make one because I can't help myself, but this whole "season" has been boring and, yea, exhausting. Maybe it's because there's very little in the way of discovery via these lists? Reading old P4K 70s or 80s lists was exciting back in the day because they were putting me on to artists I had never heard of before - and wasn't around to experience. But we've all lived through the ad nauseum press cycles of all these records - and especially the content cycles surrounding the big ticket albums populating most of these lists. We're not getting anything from a dozen sites telling us again that Frank Oceans rules. We already knew that. That's def why I've been most drawn to the Aquarium Drunkard list. Is it a "better" list than any of the others? Who knows, probably not. But there's tons of oddball stuff on there that's still new and exciting to me. This Vice list is pretty solid in that regard, but that has more to say with its competition than its own merits. /rant

The vice list did a better job reminding me of albums that were good than many other lists have.

- Michael Hurley - Blue Hills
he played Cubby Bear, across from Wrigley, once as an opening act for someone I can't remember, back when Cubby Bear was programmed by the women who went on to buy and run Lounge Ax. I knew about the Have Moicy album from Robert Cristgau giving it an A+, Jeffery Frederick was dead, and Peter Stampfel hadn't yet played Lounge Ax, so this was my first occasion to see a third of the contributors from the album. I can not completely remember, but I think he did a couple of the tunes from the album, but not all of the ones he was responsible for.

I've listened to 29 of those! I think that's a new record for me.
First ones to put These New Puritans on their list.

I've listened to 29 of those! I think that's a new record for me. First ones to put These New Puritans on their list. 21 for me, which I believe is also a personal record But I'm mainly replying here to note how seen I feel by this paragraph in the introduction: "But ranking albums is even worse in some respects and I’ve always suspected that people who have a pathological need to rank things are remarkably afraid of dying. The overwhelming and slightly demented need to impose order onto a world that is essentially chaotic and constantly shifting. 'I will make sense of it all and define my place in it before I go!' "
