Yes the difference is its now "cool" and "the popular thing to do" to say you would murder people for ariana grande Depends on the people, imo Considering some "people" think it's "cool" and "would murder people for" mayo, good point.

It’s Beyoncé. I’m glad to hear everybody else’s opinions, and it’s awesome, especially if they are the only reasonable answer of Beyoncé.

Oh yeah, at best Drake latched on to other trends in pop as they were happening with the hope of attaching himself to whatever movement it happened to be (Thugger/Metro Boomin, contemporary grime, I guess what they're calling Latin trap). I would argue that him having the giant hits that he did owed in larger part to the resources at his disposal to have his take on those sounds reach a broader audience than him doing anything particularly groundbreaking.
In this sense, artists like Young Thug or Stormzy or J Balvin are better "artist of the decade" candidates for their impact on global pop music. That said, I don't think any of them had the sustained cultural impact, relevance, and success as Beyoncé, which is why I urge you to vote for her, kind residents of The Board, as your artist of the decade.
My name is teekoh and I approve this message.

I think it's interesting someone voted for Jack Antonoff. He definitely worked with a lot of artists this decade. If he's going to be included people like Max Martin should've been included too

I just couldn't vote for the "pop" artists on the list, I didn't like Kendrick at pitchfork the first time he played, and I can't get into beyonce's oeuvre, unlike almost everyone else here (Jay Z, however, I consider the goat rapper). I almost voted for GVF, but they're not big enough yet, and they're completely derivative of whitesnake and other zep clones.

chvrchbarrel, my knowledge of antonoff comes from seeing him up close at jbtv w/ bleachers, and then seeing a bit of bleachers at riot fest. and whatever band he was in before fun. when they played a small lolla stage. I don't know his pop work.
edit: it was steel train at the bmi stage at lolla 2008.

wow, no votes for Halestorm who of course I know to be an American rock band from Red Lion, Pennsylvania, consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Lzzy Hale, her brother drummer and percussionist Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bassist Josh Smith.[6]

I voted for Kendrick Lamar but almost voted for Beyonce. I very much see the argument for her, and she's arguably had a bigger impact on music itself and pop culture. But Kendricks output quality this decade has just been unreal and he's had his own impact, maybe not quite as much on music as a whole but definitely on pop culture in general
Because every thread on this forum has to have one I'll say my personal artist of the decade (quality of output, influence on me, and listening amount, taking popular impact and influence on other music out of it) is probably The National. And because I couldn't let a music related thread on the board dot com not mention them
