I've played The Show online five times now and four out of five times I have played against the Cubs. You nerds are everywhere

They are currently working on a plan that would start the season in early June, we'll see. I'll take baseball in empty ballparks over no baseball, if that can be done in a safe way.

There’s actually three plans, and that’s one of them. There’s the doomsday scenario of no season too.

Between the 1994 strike and this the White Sox have a real knack for getting good right when there's no baseball to be played.

Here's a story: the first time I ever said the word shit in front of my Mom was the following moment in history: Edit: My Mom, a die hard Cubs fan, when she sees the replay: "oh my god"

It's bad but I still haven't seen a reasonable proposal on the best way to handle this. People are going to get screwed either way. Obviously amateurs in every sport get hosed by missing a year - and baseball is no different.
I feel less bad for the future All Star who takes a dent (or one year delayed start) in his future earnings then I do for the HS senior who never gets to play another baseball game again. Or the 12 year olds who will miss out on the team trip to Cooperstown. It's all bad.

yeah, there are not a lot of paths toward a win here that the union would actually agree on.
the cascade effect could be drastic. if mlb allows milb teams to shutter, is there even an infinitesimal chance that those teams form an independent minor league like the atlantic league?

Just realized it is not outside the realm of possibility that Mookie Betts never plays for the Dodgers

the service time thing is really going to be abused.
let's say you have a rookie (luis robert?) who was going to start the season in mlb. if the season starts in july and he started with mlb, he'd get a full season of service time. nice. but why would any team do that now? wouldn't you just hold a guy in the minors a couple weeks and then bring them up so they only accrued a couple months of service time?

I asked Keith Law about this in a chat and he actually thought the opposite, that a shortened season would incentivize teams to promote elite prospects earlier than usual in order to make a playoff push that likely wouldn't be feasible in a 162 game season.

Robert is a bad example because he already signed a long term extension that can extend his team control beyond the 7 years teams can get with service time manipulation. He's going to be the opening day CF unless he's hurt. For other prospects, teams could still game the system the way they have in the past. If the season starts in say July, teams could wait until whatever date is needed (August sometime?) for them to not accrue the full season.

This is already sorta happening in Cleveland. We assigned Aaron Civale, Zack Plesac, and James Karinchak to AAA even though the first two are slated to open the season in the starting rotation, and Karinchak ought to be a back-end bullpen guy this year. They'll still be called up and accrue the full service time if the season happens, but if the season is ultimately cancelled they won't get anything.

I feel like this is the type of small business that should apply for the stimulus package. There are A LOT of companies in this same situation (mine included) and that is the purpose is to help weather the storm for a few months until things are back to normal.

I will gladly take baseball with oversized rosters played in neutral sites in front of no one over no baseball.
If they do this they need to make sure all the fans can watch their favorite teams though. No blackouts, and no private networks that aren't available to most of the fans in a teams home market. Baseball can be something this country rallies around if MLB does it right.
