Lakeview is the worst area to live in (unless you went to Notre Dame)

The blue line sucks shit in my opinion Can confirm that this is mostly the case, but we’ve lived with this as our main mode of transportation for 8+ years and I don’t think we’d rather live anywhere else.

I feel like the only people I know that live in Roscoe Village are families. Same. Might as well just go to north center at that point (which is also full of families)

What does "expensive apartment" mean in Chicago? I genuinely have no idea. My idea of what I should be paying in rent drastically changed when I moved to Madison (and got a better job)

Goodson feels like Avondale to me? Yeah I was just about to say that might be the play if Bridgeport seems like too much of a pain in the ass

I know along of “hip” people In Roscoe Village but I don’t get it. I like living in uptown/Andersonville but if I were single it’d prob be boring but it’s nice to be near all the bus lines and the red and brown line and the metra and all of the pho and tacos and than you have Carol’s and hopleaf and Simons and there’s like 5 breweries up here that I could theoretically go to but never do.
It’s definitely got more expensive for one bedrooms but you can still get a nice 3 bedroom for $1600 a month which compared to New York is good.

What does "expensive apartment" mean in Chicago? I genuinely have no idea. My idea of what I should be paying in rent drastically changed when I moved to Madison (and got a better job) Chicago is big. When I was apartment hunting recently our range was 1 bedroom for $1200/ 2 bedroom for $1400 and in Edgewater/Rogers Park that price was awesome and in Uptown/Andersonville it was significantly more hit or miss. We were considering a roommate because there were endless awesome 3 bedrooms for $1500-1600 everywhere tho. I know people who pay $1800 a month for a 2 bedroom in Albany Park which seems insane to me but they were paying 2 grand for a small 2 bedroom in West Town so who knows. I would imagine the $1200-$1400 range for 1-2 bedrooms hold pretty firm in most neighborhoods in Chicago other than like West Town/Wicker Park/West Loop. You're definitely more likely to find a steal in Bridgeport/Avondale but that could be changing who knows.

I was looking at some places on zillow out of curiosity (I'm never moving again don't get too excited) and was surprised to see apartments with similar amenities to mine that were significantly more expensive, especially because I feel like my rent is ridiculously high here. I looked in a few different neighborhoods but I don't know one place from another very well in the city.

Still pretty easy to find $900-$1000 1br places in decent neighborhoods if you're willing to have a huge flaw (i.e. tiny ass kitchen). I've paid $1,200 for 5 years for a good place and I'm nervous to make the jump to $1,500 for actual nice places.

I pay $1100 for a niceish 1br, but it is indeed not actual nice.
