$1450 for a 1 bedroom in downtown Greenville.
It's nice being downtown and a 3 min walk to my favorite bar and my gym but a friend and I found a place that is 2br, 2 ba, and 2 living rooms/den a few miles out that is like $900 so will be moving there in June. Very excited to be saving about a grand in rent every month. It's also in an area that has like the best restaurants, especially ethnic food. Sadly not walkable but that's ok.

1750 for a 2 bed 2 bath on the west side of Madison. It’s a lot but we have an underground parking spot, a pool, fitness center, and an indoor storage unit so it’s not bad for the area. If we were downtown we would pay the same for a smaller place with no amenities and we’d pay between 100-200 extra a month for parking.

Just saying, $660 total for a two bedroom in the cozy Midtown neighborhood of Grand Rapids.

granted, my last apt was a garden with weird carpet, but it was a $1250 2-br in ukrainian village with all the amenities, which was a steal. there are similar steals elsewhere in ~west town~

The one place we’ve talked about moving to is Andersonville. Would not mind that in the slightest.
Avondale would be cool cuz me and the goodson could chill at Sleeping Village and talk fondly about y’all kings.
Ftr, $1060 for a nice-ish 1BR in Old Irving Park. Rent has gone up $65 total over 7 years of being here.

I love Andersonville - a couple of friends will be moving to Chicago from Baltimore in June, and that's where I think they're going to focus their search.

I find Andersonville to be....boring *ducks* I really like it, but I’m so used to to being two blocks from a CTA stop it would be a major adjustment if I ever moved there.

i'm always surprised by people who are averse to taking a bus to a train stop.

I like Andersonville a lot but it seems to have gotten so much more expensive than even five years ago.

i'm always surprised by people who are averse to taking a bus to a train stop. Eh I kinda get it. Certain routes can take forever, I've waited 20+ minutes for a bus. That can be brutal in the winter.

but, bus tracker is a thing? though i live near three major bus routes so if one really gets fucked, i have options.
half my commute is on a bus and it usually only takes 30 minutes tops.

It is, but when you're dependent on the bus to get somewhere and it's bunched up or delayed or whatever it can be annoying. The train has issues too, but generally more reliable, plus no traffic. I use both often, but I def prefer the train.

I also take both train and bus fairly regularly and I have enough issues with both that I could never imagining compounding them with a transfer as part of my daily commute.

My parents own/live in a 3 unit brick building in Avondale (near Addison and the Kennedy). They have a long-term tenant that rents the first floor 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment for $850/month. There are deals at mom and pop owned buildings.
