so, suggestions on neighborhoods? looking at logan square/wicker park currently. I think it depends on where your office is, assuming you have to report to said office when this bullshit is over Work from home half the time, the other half in various locations that are not set. So I can live wherever.

Going through the thread seems that Andersonville/Uptown is where a lot of people live. Any specific reason why? I haven't lived in the city in 7 years or been in 3 so everything I know about neighborhoods I'm sure is very dated.

I liked living near the lake and the red line (back in the days when we took public transit). Currently in the process of moving very far west off the blue line so trying to find things to like about that.

Neader I would say Wicker Park is probably the best landing spot for you if money is no object. You might also be the kind of Young Working Professional who enjoys the West Loop even though there is only one spot in the West Loop worth a damn for my tastes. If you have a car, Logan, Humboldt Park, and/or Bridgeport can be on the table too as places you'd probably like.
I'm over Lincoln Park but one can't deny the location

so, suggestions on neighborhoods? looking at logan square/wicker park currently. My suggestion would be to think of things that are very important to you and go from there. Do you want need to be near any of the following? Particular train/bus routes The highway Grocery stores Cool bar/restaurant scene Access to easy street parking Parks Bike/running trail The beach/lake By narrowing down to the things that are most important, you'll eliminate certain neighborhoods. I don't think any spot has all of the above.

*rings bell* And the last time I lived with the landlord in the same building he also tried to fleece me of my security deposit and hang $3k worth of damages on me (that he had admitted and I had in writing were before we moved into the building) that he never did. Fuck that shit. Never again. Every other building I’ve lived in has been owned by a person who doesn’t live there. That’s the fuckin ideal Edit: on the plus side, this was the genesis of my dad and I starting to talk again (since he's a lawyer and all) which we hadn't done in like 5 years to that point. So I guess that's something Lulz I live in the same building as my landlord and its v chill never listen to me

The first two are by far the most important.

My humble opinion is that getting on the blue line during rush hour sucks shit if you're off one of the wicker park stops

neader, pick an apartment where you are close enough to walk / stumble home drunk from either schubas or metro or both once they reopen.
unless you don't like malkmus and the jicks, or the now disbanded priests.

Does Metro exclusively book Malkmus?

i stan ukrainian village (even though i technically now live in ~east village~) cuz it's cheaper than wicker park, friendlier, less awful, has better bars, and is even closer to downtown (if you're cool with taking a bus to blue line. some wimps are not.). also decent highway access.

I’ll throw in a plug for East Lakeview. Lots of good bars and restaurants, easy access to public transit and parks. Also walking distance to the lakefront and multiple concert venues.

neader - If you think you will be traveling to the suburbs, I think that Ukranian Village/Wicker/Bucktown/Logan Square/Avondale are good bets because of highway access.
I like Andersonville/Edgewater and Lincoln Square as well - they are not close to highways, but have good train access to downtown.

Just put a holding deposit down on a nice two bedroom that's a 10 min walk north of the Western stop. It's about 25% less than it was pre-pandemic. Shout out avb for finding it.

walk north of the Western stop. there are 5 western avenue stops across the entire cta train system. I'm assuming it's one of the two on the north side.
